When Anderlecht hosts Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday, they will be looking to avenge their opening-day loss.

After winning their first top flight championship in 66 years in June, the visitors, meanwhile, got off to a successful start.

Anderlecht, who have won the Belgian Pro League a record 34 times, on the other hand, struggled to rebound after losing Vincent Kompany to Burnley and finished a distant 11th.

In December of last year, Brian Riemer was appointed as Felice Mazzu's replacement as the manager of Anderlecht after only four months as the former Manchester City defender's replacement.

The pressure on the Danish coach, who had previously served as Brentford's assistant coach, is only set to grow in the wake of last weekend's 2-0 loss away to Union Saint-Gilloise. Despite his struggles to make an impression, the Dane has managed to keep his position.

The Purple and White haven't had the best start to the schedule, so they won't exactly be confident in their prospects of defeating the defending champions at Lotto Park on Sunday.

Few would have imagined that Antwerp would win the Belgian top flight after 66 years, but Mark van Bommel, a former Netherlands international, did marvels in his first season with the club.

Toby Alderweireld, a former Tottenham Hotspur defender, scored an injury-time equalizer away to Genk to grab the championship away from their rivals with nearly the final kick of the season under the direction of the former PSV Eindhoven and Wolfsburg manager.

It is unclear if they will be able to repeat that this season, but regardless, they will be able to enjoy the thrill of playing in the Champions League for the first time in their history, with a play-off round to get them into the group stage of Europe's top competition.

There is nothing to suggest that The Reds are going anywhere anytime soon, though, since they have finished in the top four spots each of the last five seasons. They would dearly love to set a precedent this weekend by upsetting their country's most successful club ever on their own field.
