The match between Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim on Sunday at Signal Iduna Park could have a huge impact on the Bundesliga table at both extremes.

Seventh placed BVB Borussia Dortmund played out a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach on December 7 2018 and with 21 points they are only three points behind the divisional fourth placed and the final Champions League spot of RB Leipzig while the visitors are 14th last with only thirteen points in their pocket from the tally and also played out a 1-1 draw against Freiburg on December

The hosts were will perhaps feel that they should have taken all three points against Borussia Monchengladbach given Dortmund created over 1.5 xG from open play while restricting Die Fohlen to just 0.34 xG from open play.
Nuri Sahin side too was beaten by Barcelona on Wednesday night in the Champions League and they just lost 3-2 in a match and have 12 points in the league phase table and they are ninth ranked team.

As for the match itself it was relatively problematic from the defensive point of view and more specifically Dortmund seemed especially exposed during counter-attacks.

BVB have not registered any victory in their last 3 games although they have been amateur against Barcelona and Bayern Munich and out of the last six games in the Bundesliga, BVB have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2.

The home side has not won their last two games at Signal Iduna Park but they had won eight consecutive games at home before that, and their loss to Barcelona had been their only loss at the stadium in the whole of this campaign.

Christian Ilzer's side were held to a 0-0 draw by FCSB in the Europa League on Thursday, with each club creating three good chances.

Hoffenheim has scored 18 goals and surrendered 25 in the Bundesliga, giving them the division's 12th best offensive and joint fourth-worst defensive statistics.

The visitors' road record has been frightening for some time, with the team failing to win any of their ten away games, losing six and drawing four.

In good news for Dortmund, attacker Karim Adeyemi is scheduled to return after being out since October. While his fitness may limit him to a replacement role, he might play in place of Donyell Malen, Marcel Sabitzer, or Jamie Gittens. Dortmund, on the other hand, is still missing strikers Julian Brandt and Maximilian Beier, who are both out with hamstring and knee problems.

Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, and Waldemar Anton are all unavailable, therefore defensive choices are restricted. Due to the lack, Nuri Sahin may be forced to use midfielder Emre Can as a central defender with Ramy Bensebaini in a makeshift back four.

The visitors, Hoffenheim, will undoubtedly take heart from their recent draw with Freiburg, despite being only three points above of 16th-placed Heidenheim, who are now in the relegation playoffs. The outcome was a positive stride following three consecutive defeats in their previous outings.

Hoffenheim, coached by Christian Ilzer, entered the game after a 0-0 draw with FCSB in the Europa League on Thursday. Both teams had three big chances in the game, but neither took advantage of them.

In the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim has scored 18 goals and conceded 25, ranking 12th in offensive rankings and tied for the league's fourth-worst defensive record.
