Two teams that experienced humbling defeats in the previous weekend are set to face each other at Goodison Park in an early Saturday clash of the Premier League's struggling sides. Everton will be hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Everton suffered a 4-0 loss against Aston Villa last week, while Wolverhampton Wanderers, managed by Gary O'Neil, were dealt a 4-1 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at their home ground.

The optimistic signs shown by Everton in their season opener were rendered ineffective as they faced a lack of offensive prowess, leading to their downfall against Fulham. Aston Villa took advantage of Everton's defensive weaknesses and emerged victorious.

Unai Emery's team also aimed to recover from a heavy defeat on Newcastle United's home turf in their season opener. They managed to do so in an impressive manner by securing a 4-0 victory against Sean Dyche's team, with goals scored by John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran.

With no points and no goals scored in the first two games of the new season, Everton currently occupies the 20th position in the league standings. This situation could spell trouble for them if they don't address their issues both in attack and defense before the transfer window closes. The potential signing of Southampton's Che Adams might help improve their attacking concerns.

Che Adams, a Scottish international, will join an Everton team desperately in need of offensive inspiration, having only scored three goals in their last six Premier League matches. Their last home game with at least two goals scored dates back to October.

Additionally, Everton's performance at Goodison Park has been disappointing, losing four out of their last five matches there. The only exception was a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on the final day of the previous year. However, their upcoming visitors also arrive after facing a harsh footballing lesson.

In a similar manner to Dyche's team, Wolverhampton Wanderers began their 2023-24 season with a painful 1-0 defeat, squandering numerous scoring opportunities against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and then suffering a defeat against Brighton at their own Molineux stadium.

While Gary O'Neil's squad seemed capable of testing Brighton's strength, they were soundly defeated on their home ground as Kaoru Mitoma, Pervis Estupinan, and Solly March (2) secured goals for Brighton, with Hwang Hee-chan adding a consolation goal for Wolves.

Wolves currently hold 19th place, just above Everton, with only goal difference separating the two teams. The situation worsened for Wolves as Matheus Nunes received a red card late in the match against Brighton. There is speculation about his potential transfer to Manchester City.

Having lost three consecutive games and being winless in their last five matches in the Premier League, Wolves' away performance is concerning. They have suffered defeats in their last five away matches and have only managed to beat a relegated Southampton side on enemy territory in 2023.

However, their last away victory in 2022 was at Goodison Park, where they secured a memorable 2-1 win on Boxing Day, thanks to Rayan Ait Nouri's last-minute goal. Everton, on the other hand, benefited from an injury-time goal by Yerry Mina in a 1-1 draw at Molineux five months later.

The upcoming clash between Everton and Wolves promises to be an intriguing and highly anticipated match in the world of English football. Both teams are set to battle it out on the pitch, each aiming to secure a crucial victory that could potentially impact their respective positions in the Premier League standings.

Everton, under the guidance of their experienced manager, will be seeking to build on their recent form and continue their ascent up the league table. With a balanced squad that boasts both defensive stability and attacking prowess, Everton has the potential to pose a significant threat to any opposition. The likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin provide a formidable attacking duo, while the midfield engine of Abdoulaye Doucouré and Allan can control the tempo of the game. Everton's home advantage further amplifies their chances, as the passionate Goodison Park crowd often plays a role in motivating the team.

On the other side, Wolves, known for their compact defensive structure and swift counter-attacks, will be eager to secure a positive result away from home. With a history of causing upsets against strong opponents, Wolves possess the ability to exploit any gaps in Everton's defense. The tactical acumen of their manager and the skillful players in their ranks, such as Pedro Neto and Adama Traoré, can make them a formidable force even on the road.
