Feyenoord and Heerenveen will look to continue from where they left it right before the international break in a match on Saturday at De Kuip in the Eredivisie tournament 2024/2025 on match day 13.
The hosts last played against Almere City where they emerged 4-1 winners while the away team performed a hard fought 1-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles.
Again free from match bans and suspensions, Feyenoord were back in action at the Yanmar Stadium on October 10 to face struggling Almere and to heap even more pressure on themselves by making the admission of knowing that only a win would enable the team to halve the points gap to defending champions and current leaders PSV Eindhoven who had opened up an almost double-digit lead over Feyenoord.
Brian Priske’s men began the fight brightly and fully deserved their first half lead when Hwang In-beom put them ahead, only for Kornelius Hansen to quickly restore parity and then Ramiz Zerrouki, Thomas Beelen and Anis Hadj Moussa turned the result around for their side.
That should have been the ideal response to De Stadionclub’s 3-1 loss to Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League four days prior to the match which prevented the team from jumping into the automatic knockout round places.
While, Feyenoord will have every chance of getting back into the European campaign ahead of them against Manchester City on Tuesday, the Rotterdam-based side will first look forward to extending the Dutch domestic dominance with the five victories out of six Eredivisie outings.
Saturday’s hosts are currently eight points off the Eredivisie leaders at the moment and will be desperate to keep the pressure on PSV ahead of their fixture at the Philips Stadion in just over a month.
With a 1-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles two Sundays ago, Heerenveen maintained their nearly flawless home record and avoided suffering back-to-back losses for the second time this season.
In a close match at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, Robin van Persie's team was once again the difference thanks to in-form attacker Jacob Trenskow, whose first goal nine minutes from halftime proved to be the game-winning goal.
For his new employers, Trenskow has now personally contributed to six goals—four goals and two assists—just less than half of De Superfriezen's 13 goals in their first 12 games of the season.
