Fiorentina and Napoli, who are separated in the Serie A rankings by just one spot and two points, will play a thrilling match on Friday at Artemio Franchi.

La Viola advanced to the Europa Conference League final on Monday after defeating Monza 2-1, but their visitors' dismal run at home against Bologna, who will play in the Champions League, continued.

As Fiorentina counts down the days before they square off against Olympiacos in the third-tier European finale on May 29, making amends for the 2022–23 Europa Conference League final is their primary objective from this point on.

In addition to the three Serie A matches that Vincenzo Italiano's team must attend in the upcoming weeks in an effort to bring back some regularity to Calcio, that encounter in Athens will serve as his farewell game as head coach before he resigns from his position.

After defeating Club Brugge in their Conference League semi-final, Fiorentina defeated Monza 2-1 on Sunday, their third straight victory in the top flight after victories over Sassuolo and Salernitana. It appears that their efforts are bearing fruit. Goals from Nicolas Gonzalez and Arthur Melo sealed the victory.

Fiorentina's eighth-place finish in the table may be enough for Europa Conference League football next season, though it will depend on the outcome of the upcoming Coppa Italia and Europa League finals. They are six points behind Lazio with nine games remaining, so climbing any higher will be difficult.

Putting aside theories, La Viola can only hope to give Italiano the best possible send-off in what is likely to be his final game as Fiorentina's manager at Artemio Franchi. His team has scored and conceded in each of their last seven Serie A games, and they haven't kept a clean sheet at home against a top team since December.

In addition to being scheduled for a management change in the summer due to the inability to locate a suitable replacement for Luciano Spalletti, Napoli, the relegated champions, are clumsily teetering into the 2023–24 season and have forfeited their chance to compete in Europe the following year.

Francesco Calzona has supervised a depressing five-game losing streak in top-flight activity since Fiorentina's fortuitous victory over Monza, their most recent Serie A victims. During this period, the 2022–23 Scudetto champions have only collected three points out of a possible fifteen.

Twelve minutes into Saturday's match against Bologna, the game was decided. Dan Ndoye and Stefan Posch had already given the Rossoblu a 2-0 lead, which they would maintain throughout the game to secure UCL qualification and further dent Napoli's hopes of finishing in the top eight.

The struggling Partenopei may move up to ninth place with all three points on Friday, but they are without any defensive discipline as they have now surrendered in their previous 15 Serie A games. They have also played one more game than their opponents.

Under Rudi Garcia, Napoli lost their Serie A match against Fiorentina 3-1 at home in December. However, they gained revenge in January, winning the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final 3-0. Since then, they have not lost a top-tier match at the Viola's field since April 2018, when Giovanni Simeone scored a hat-trick for the home team.
