When Leicester City travels to West Yorkshire to play Huddersfield Town on Saturday, they will be looking to build on their first two victories of the Championship season.

The Foxes started their quest for a quick return to the Premier League with a victory over Coventry City at home last weekend, while their opponents got things going on the road at Plymouth Argyle and lost.

Huddersfield Town had a strong finish to the 2022–23 season after hiring Neil Warnock in mid-February, when the team was in real danger of being dropped from the Championship. They eventually finished 18th with 53 points, nine points above the relegation zone, in large part because of three straight victories in their final three games.

The Terriers entered the new season with the goal of once again securing safety in England's second tier, and Warnock committed another year to the club as a result of that success. They prepared with friendlies against Tavistock and Heerenveen before opening the season with a challenging trip to newly promoted Plymouth Argyle last Saturday.

Within six minutes of the game, Morgan Whittaker gave the hosts the lead. Michal Helik did tie the score for the Terriers just before halftime, but the hosts went on to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Hardie and Bali Mumba in the second half.

The Yorkshire team then turned their attention to EFL Cup action on Tuesday as they hosted Middlesbrough in a first-round match. After taking the lead through Kian Harratt in the fourth minute, Warnock's side were quickly reduced to 10 men after Jaheim Headley was sent off, and the visitors then turned the game on its head with goals from Samuel Silvera, Isaiah Jones, and Riley McGree. Kyle Hudlin's goal came too late to force a comeback, and they ultimately

The Terriers will try to score their first points in their first home league game as they attempt to recover from the setback of their opening week of competitive play this season.

That won't be an easy chore, though, as the guests come prepared to build on their promising start to life under new leadership after being demoted from the Premier League last season.

The Leicester City hierarchy turned to Enzo Maresca over the summer, giving him the job of guiding them back to the Premier League at the first opportunity after failing to stave off the drop just seven years after winning the English top division. They trained by defeating Northampton Town 4-0 and playing Liverpool, who they lost to 4-0.

The Foxes then began their league campaign at home against Coventry City on Sunday. After falling behind after Kyle McFadzean's first goal, they would draw level through a header from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the 77th minute, and he would then curl in the game-winning goal three minutes from time to ensure his side won all three points in their season-opening match.

Maresca's team played in the first round of the EFL Cup against Burton Albion in midweek, just like Saturday's hosts. Wilfried Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored both goals in the first half to advance the team.
