Lecce started off 2024 on the back of two consecutive losses in Serie A. However, they're aiming to bounce back as they prepare to face relegation-threatened Cagliari at Stadio Via del Mare this Saturday.

In the upcoming 19th gameweek, Lecce has the opportunity to continue their unbeaten streak against Cagliari, potentially stretching it to four games.

Before entering their last match of 2023, Lecce had gone five games without a loss, although four of those were draws. Unfortunately, they ended the year with defeats against Inter and Atalanta.

The loss to Atalanta was especially disheartening as Roberto D'Aversa's team performed well against La Dea and might have deserved a better outcome, considering their performance before and after Ademola Lookman's second-half goal sealed the match.

Sitting at 13th place in the league, Lecce is eager to secure consecutive wins at home, aiming for their fifth victory in front of their home crowd.

Struggling to secure back-to-back wins at home this season, Lecce sees an opportunity to capitalize on their positive history against Cagliari, considering Cagliari's poor performance when playing away from home.

However, D'Aversa's squad needs to secure their victory, given that their opponents are striving to maintain their spot in the top-flight league.

Claudio Ranieri's team has experienced a varied season upon returning to Serie A, displaying moments of excitement followed by disappointing outcomes.

Cagliari managed consecutive wins against Frosinone and Genoa (4-3 and 2-1 respectively) but have only secured one victory since November 5, suffering four losses in their last seven league matches.

The previous year ended with a lackluster goalless draw against 19th-placed Empoli, a result that was disheartening as Ranieri's team, positioned 18th, failed to distance themselves from the Azzurri.

Though this result extended Cagliari's commendable unbeaten streak at home to five matches (including three wins), their performances away from home have been unsatisfactory.

The team has gathered just two points out of a possible 27 in their away games, losing seven out of nine matches. Another defeat on Saturday would mark Cagliari's fifth consecutive loss on the road.

Lameck Banda remains suspended following his red card during Lecce's match against Inter in their second-to-last game of 2023.

Nicola Sansone is anticipated to return from a calf injury only by late January, while Kastriot Dermaku is sidelined until February due to a knee issue.

Ranieri's team is dealing with several absences, as Nahitan Nandez, Gianluca Lapadula, Eldor Shomurodov, and Marko Rog were all absent from the squad for Saturday's match against Cagliari.

Cagliari's leading scorer in the league is Leonardo Pavoletti, who has netted four goals so far. Pavoletti's performance could be pivotal for Rossoblu's chances in the upcoming Saturday fixture.
