Algeria and Uganda will square off at the Mandela National Stadium on Monday with the goal of securing crucial points for their respective campaigns to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Together with Guinea and Mozambique, the two teams are tied for six points in a hotly fought Group G where a single missed point might have serious consequences.

With a goal by Muhammad Shaban in the 74th minute, Uganda narrowly defeated Botswana 1-0. Uganda's perseverance was shown in this match.

Uganda is presently in third place in the group despite having the same amount of points as the top two teams because of a worse goal differential and fewer goals scored.

In their first four games of 2024, Paul Put's team had only lost once, enjoying a decent run. In contrast to their two victories and one tie, they suffered this one loss, falling to Comoros 4-0.

Uganda will be looking to build on their encouraging start to their World Cup qualifying campaign after defeating ten-man Somalia 1-0 in Morocco and suffering a disheartening 2-1 setback to Guinea in November. This match takes place on Monday.

The tourists and East Africans will meet for the third time on this occasion. Regretfully, Uganda had suffered defeat in their two prior meetings, which took place in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification stages.

In their first competitive game under Vladimir Petkovic's direction, Algeria was defeated, which also happened to be their first loss in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Fennec Foxes won their first two games against Mozambique and Somalia, but they were unable to continue their winning streak as they lost 2-1 against Guinea at home.

Unsettlingly, the Guineans scored all three of the goals in that match; Yasser Balde's own goal was positioned between goals from Aguibou Camara and Morlaye Sylla.

The emphasis will be on the Bosnian-born Swiss coach, who took Djamel Belmadi's post following a lackluster performance at the AFCON, to win in just his second competitive game in charge.
