On Wednesday night, Ajax will face SBV Excelsior with the knowledge that they need all three points to keep up their push for fourth place in the Eredivisie rankings.
Excelsior, meanwhile, is coming to Amsterdam with a win that will raise their spirits even if they are just one point above the bottom three.
Ajax's season was in shambles going into the final stretch after suffering one of their worst losses ever, 6-0, at rivals Feyenoord.

With four games remaining, Ajax leads AZ Alkmaar by seven points, but their opponents still have Twente on their schedule, therefore Ajax has a favorable run of games.
Unbeknownst to many, Ajax has also won all of their home league games since October going into this match.
With regard to Excelsior, they haven't won a single game in the Dutch top division for about three months.
Marinus Dijkhuizen's team suffered nine losses in an 11-game stretch that placed them in the bottom three. Their next game, against FC Volendam, was unquestionably the most important of the season thus far.
But the Kralingers delivered maximum points in fine fashion, winning 4-0 to go six points ahead of their opponents in 17th position.
Excelsior's +24 goal differential against Volendam means that only a spectacular comeback would save them from finishing lower than 16th place, which is the relegation playoff slot, before the end of the season. Dijkhuizen will want to avoid any match that may potentially put them in this situation.
