Looking to strengthen their hold on second place and keep their faint Ligue 1 title hopes alive, Marseille will head to Stade Raymond Kopa to take on Angers on Sunday evening.

Les Olympiens bounced back to winning form last weekend, narrowly defeating Lyon 3-2 in the Choc des Olympiques, a result that kept them within 10 points of league leaders PSG.

However, Marseille’s title aspirations have suffered setbacks in recent weeks, with a 1-1 draw against Strasbourg and a 2-0 loss to Nice denting their momentum.

Entering last weekend’s crucial clash with Lyon, a defeat or draw would have threatened their position in the top two. However, Roberto De Zerbi’s side emerged victorious in a match that saw all five goals scored in a dramatic second half.

The stakes remain high as Marseille prepare for Sunday’s encounter, holding just a three-point lead over third-placed Monaco. Adding to the challenge, they face an Angers team that has been in strong form, collecting the joint-most Ligue 1 points (10) in 2025 so far.

Marseille will look to their high-scoring attack, which has netted 43 goals in 20 league games—their best tally at this stage of the season since scoring 44 in the 1971-72 campaign.

Angers, on the other hand, will be eager to defy history, having only won one of their past 16 league encounters with Marseille—a 2-1 victory in December 2020—while drawing eight and losing seven.

Alexandre Dujeux's side can be buoyed by their strong home form, having won two and drawn one of their last three league games at Stade Raymond Kopa; a win on Sunday would see them go unbeaten in four consecutive home matches for the first time since a six-game streak from May to December 2016.

The Black and Whites played their final league game at home, drawing 1-1 with bottom-placed Le Havre thanks to a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser from Florent Hanin. The match saw both teams reduced to ten men within the first 16 minutes, with Lilian Raolisoa (Angers) and Arouna Sangante (Le Havre) both sent off.

Despite conceding two points, Angers increased their lead above the relegation zone to eight points, giving much-needed breathing room.

They also competed on Wednesday, winning 3-1 against Strasbourg to go to the Coupe de France quarterfinals.
