In an effort to maintain their position at the top of Serie A, Inter Milan will make a visit to local rivals Atalanta BC on Saturday evening, as they also strive for their fourth consecutive victory.

Last season, the two Lombardy clubs engaged in two matches, each of which witnessed a total of five goals. However, in the current season, they have excelled in keeping their defense solid, ranking among the top teams in Europe in this regard.

Atalanta, having already suffered three losses in away games this season, traveled to Empoli on Monday with the aim of securing all three points. The events at the Stadio Castellani unfolded as their coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, had hoped. La Dea's objective for the season is to return to the top four in the Serie A, and this requires them to handle their matches against teams struggling in the league. Their investment in Gianluca Scamacca, a proven striker formerly with Sassuolo, paid off in Tuscany as he scored two goals, contributing to a 3-0 victory.

Atalanta has maintained a clean sheet in seven of their first ten Serie A matches, and they currently sit in fourth place in the standings, one point ahead of the reigning champions, Napoli, and trailing behind both Milan clubs and Juventus.

Despite a recent draw with Sturm Graz in the Europa League, Atalanta is well-positioned to advance from Group D and reach the knockout rounds, leading the group ahead of the upcoming reverse fixture against the Austrian side next week. Their goal is to achieve a similar record to last year, with seven wins in their first 11 league games. Achieving this in consecutive seasons, something they haven't done in about 60 years, would demonstrate the successful squad rebuild led by their long-serving coach, Gasperini.

It's worth noting that Gasperini, who was once in charge of Inter Milan, albeit briefly and without much success, has seen his team lose their last two league matches against Saturday's opponents, both by a 3-2 scoreline. However, their recent strong defensive performances suggest that conceding three goals this time is less likely.

Counting their success from the previous season, Inter Milan has an impressive record of being undefeated in nine Serie A encounters with Atalanta. They are now gearing up for a visit to Bergamo, and maintaining their unbeaten streak this weekend would equal their best run of 10 matches without defeat, a feat they achieved between December 1950 and March 1955.

Simone Inzaghi's team will head to the Gewiss Stadium after suffering only one loss this season. In their most recent game, they secured a 1-0 victory at home against Roma, with Marcus Thuram's late goal being the decider.

Romelu Lukaku, formerly of Inter and now with Roma, couldn't keep up his excellent start with the Giallorossi. However, his replacement has made a significant impact, contributing to at least one goal in each of his last five league appearances and scoring a winning goal against Benfica in the Champions League.

With Thuram complementing Lautaro Martinez, who leads the Capocannoniere rankings, up front, Inter Milan has accumulated 25 points. They boast an impressive record of 25 goals scored and only five conceded.

Inzaghi's squad has triumphed in eight out of their first 10 league matches and is also on track to reach the Champions League's round of 16. They can secure their qualification by defeating Red Bull Salzburg next Wednesday. This remarkable run of form is not solely due to their potent strike partnership, as their solid defense has also played a crucial role. If they win and keep a clean sheet on Saturday, it will mark the second time in their extensive history that Inter Milan has won each of their first five away fixtures without conceding.

Despite the absence of their summer signing El Bilal Toure, who is dealing with a thigh injury, and the center-back Jose Luis Palomino, who is sidelined due to a muscular issue, Atalanta's coach Gian Piero Gasperini is hoping that two other key players don't join the list of absentees this weekend.

Giorgio Scalvini, a highly-regarded defender, is struggling with a back problem, and wing-back Davide Zappacosta has fallen ill. However, as of now, there's no confirmation that they will miss Saturday's game.

During the last transfer window, there were rumors linking Gianluca Scamacca with a move to Inter, but he ultimately signed with Atalanta. Despite being hampered by injuries, Scamacca has managed to score two braces in just four Serie A starts this season. The Italian striker could once again be partnered with Ademola Lookman, but Gasperini also has the option of Charles De Ketelaere, who is on loan from Milan.

On the other hand, Inter is still waiting for the return of Marko Arnautovic, who is recovering from a thigh injury, and Juan Cuadrado, who is dealing with an Achilles issue. Neither of them has resumed full training.

Simone Inzaghi is expected to field a similar lineup to the one that played against Roma in their last match, with any rotation likely to be considered for the upcoming game against Salzburg. Their top scorer with 12 goals, Lautaro Martinez, is set to team up with Marcus Thuram in the forward positions.
