Monday night at Tupras Stadyumu, two teams at different ends of the Turkish Super Lig rankings will square off as Besiktas hosts a struggling Konyaspor.

Prior to their meeting in nine days to compete in the Turkish Cup quarterfinal, each of these teams will be vying for the psychological edge in addition to the three points that are up for grabs.Besiktas' lead over Fenerbahce, who are now in second place, grew to a whopping 24 points last weekend after putting on a bland display that resulted in a goalless draw away to Kayserispor, who are from lower division.

Even if the result went against the odds, it shouldn't have been a huge surprise because Besiktas has struggled mightily for the most of the season, in part because of an extensive injury list.

Trabzonspor passed the Black Eagles in the league rankings, which saw them fall to fourth place. Despite this, both teams are tied at 40 points apiece, with the Burgundy Blues leading on goal differential.Fernando Santos' team is unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, but even if they do, they won't be assured a spot in any European tournament the next season—Kasimpasa is only one point behind them.

Even so, the home team will have some confidence from their performance against this opponent, as they won the rematch 2-0 in October, extending their winning streak over Konyaspor to four games (W2 D2 L0) going back to December 2021.Even if Besiktas has seen some difficulties in the league this year, it is nothing compared to what is expected to be a hellish season for Konyaspor, who hopes to improve on its eighth-place finish from the previous season.

Rather, the Anatolian Eagles are now behind Alanyaspor, the first team above the drop zone, by three points going into gameweek 26 with just 25 points on the board and firmly in the fight for top-flight survival. The one bright spot for Fahrudin Omerovic's team is that, excluding Istanbulspor, the bottom half of the league is only separated by six points; a string of wins might swiftly turn the tide.

Omerovic, who defeated Ankaragucu 1-0 last weekend to record his first victory since moving to Konya, will be hoping that his recent winning streak continues. With five games under his belt (W1 D3 L1), he now has six points.

But the new manager will need to end the visitors' 11-game losing streak in order to secure the team's second straight league success. The visitors haven't experienced a road triumph since early September of last year.
