In their pursuit of clinching a third consecutive Scottish Premiership title, Celtic will host their long-standing rivals Rangers at Celtic Park this Saturday for an Old Firm derby showdown.

The Bhoys are firmly positioned at the top, poised to defend their Scottish crown for another season, while Rangers view this weekend's match as their last viable chance to narrow the gap with their Glasgow adversaries.

Since the division into the Championship Group in mid-April, Celtic, the reigning champions, have secured two consecutive victories, enhancing their prospects of securing a third successive Premiership title, marking a significant achievement under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers, who returned as manager last summer.

Last Saturday, Hearts, the likely runners-up in Scotland's premier league, proved no match for Celtic, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at Parkhead. A brace from Kyogo Furuhashi and a second-half double from midfielder Matt O'Riley sealed the victory for the hosts.

Approaching the final three matches of the Premiership season, Celtic find themselves comfortably placed atop the table, three points clear of second-placed Rangers. They are set to face Rangers, Kilmarnock, and St Mirren before contesting the Old Firm Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on May 25th.

The Bhoys have a Premiership-caliber record at Celtic Park since the beginning of March. On Saturday, they won all three league games at their Glasgow home by an overall score of 9-1, leaving St Johnstone, St. Mirren, and Hearts in their trail.

The intention of Celtic is to sign Norwich City loanee Adam Idah to a permanent contract in the summer. This is because the Hoops are focused on strengthening their offensive line after a 2023–24 campaign in which midfielder O'Riley leads the Golden Boot race with 14 Premiership goals.

After enduring a challenging stretch with three consecutive games without a win before the post-season split, where they only secured two points, Rangers have managed to rejuvenate their title pursuit in the last two weeks. They secured a 2-1 victory against St Mirren followed by a resounding 4-1 win against Kilmarnock a week later.

Initially, Rangers faced a perilous situation in their Premiership aspirations when Kilmarnock took the lead at Ibrox with a James Tavernier own goal. However, goals from Fabio Silva, Ben Davies, Tom Lawrence, and John Souttar ensured a relatively comfortable victory for the hosts.

Looking ahead in the top-flight campaign, Rangers have matches against Celtic, surprise contender Dundee, and Hearts. Aware of the stakes, Philippe Clement's team understands that a defeat at Parkhead on Saturday would put them six points adrift from Celtic with only two games left, effectively dashing their title hopes.

Despite facing significant injury setbacks throughout the season, Rangers have maintained an unbeaten record against Celtic in their three encounters this term. Moreover, their upcoming opponents have struggled to secure a victory at Celtic Park in their last four visits.

Celtic are nearing full fitness for the upcoming Old Firm derby, with only James McCarthy nursing a hamstring injury.

Having made an impressive comeback from an Achilles injury, Callum McGregor will join top scorer O'Riley and Reo Hatate in midfield.

There's a debate brewing over who should occupy the flanks for Celtic, with Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn vying with James Forrest for a place alongside Daizen Maeda and Furuhashi in attack.

Abdallah Sima, who scored a late equalizer in the previous fixture against Celtic, will miss out this time due to a hamstring injury.

Rangers are also facing defensive issues, as Connor Goldson is sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee problem.
