Scottish Cup finalists Celtic and Rangers will play an Old Firm derby at Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon, marking the first meeting between the two teams in 22 years.

Since Rangers won the Scottish League Cup five months ago and Celtic has already retained the Scottish Premiership, both teams are hoping to close the season on a high note by taking home their second piece of domestic hardware.

Celtic finished their successful defense of the top flight title with a thrilling 3-2 home victory over St Mirren last weekend. Celtic had already been named champions for the 54th time in club history going into their final Scottish Premiership game of the season.

Celtic celebrated Christmas early when Santa Claus, ironically, presented them with the Premiership trophy on one of the hottest days of the year. This came six months after he was booed off the pitch during Celtic's 2-0 home defeat to Hearts, showing he's now back in the good graces of the Parkhead faithful.

Since that game, Celtic have lost only once in their last 24 matches across all competitions, winning their final five league games to finish eight points ahead of second-place Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers now aims to lead Celtic to their 42nd Scottish Cup victory, which would be a record-extending win and their eighth in the last decade. The Northern Irish manager, who has lost only one of his 17 previous encounters with Rangers as Celtic's coach, believes his team is in "ideal condition" for Saturday's final.

Celtic's path to the final included victories over Buckie Thistle, St Mirren, Livingston, and Aberdeen (the latter on penalties in the semi-finals). They face Rangers with confidence, having remained unbeaten in their four matches against their Old Firm rivals this season, with three wins by a combined score of 5-2 and a thrilling 3-3 draw at Ibrox in April.

After a trophyless season, Rangers have secured at least one piece of silverware this term by defeating Aberdeen 1-0 in the Scottish League Cup final in December.

Nevertheless, for the fifth time in six seasons, the Gers will finish second in the Premiership, having dropped points in 11 of their 38 matches, including six since January. One of these games was a dead-rubber match against Hearts last weekend, where Rangers squandered a two-goal lead to end in a 3-3 draw at Tynecastle.

Goals from Ross McCausland, Todd Cantwell, and Fabio Silva appeared to put Rangers in command after Lawrence Shankland had given Hearts an early advantage. However, with eight minutes left, Dexter Lembikisa scored for the Jam Tarts, and fellow substitute Kyosuke Tagawa netted a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute, securing a point at the last moment.

Philippe Clement expressed his "disappointment" at how his team conceded three goals against Hearts. The Rangers manager has urged his players to stay "focused at all times," especially in a match this weekend that holds "more than just a trophy" at stake.

Celtic manager Rodgers reported no new injuries during his pre-match press conference, though it remains uncertain if Yang Hyun-Jun will rejoin the squad after missing the last five games due to a foot injury.

Centre-back Stephen Welsh has recovered from a minor shoulder injury and might be included in the squad, but is unlikely to be in the starting lineup.

Rodgers made six changes in the team that defeated St Mirren last weekend, but he plans to return to his strongest lineup against Rangers. Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Liam Scales are expected to return in defense, safeguarding veteran goalkeeper Joe Hart, who is set to start for the final time in his career before retiring from football.

O'Riley, who has scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in 48 games for Celtic this season, is likely to be joined in midfield by captain Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate. Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda are vying for a spot in the attack.

Regarding Rangers, Clement has been discreet about injury updates but has acknowledged his willingness to take risks with several players in his injury-affected squad.
