In the quarterfinal of the EFL Cup, Everton hosts Fulham at Goodison Park on Tuesday night in hopes of winning five straight games and moving on to the last four.

The Toffees advanced to the round of eight after defeating Burnley 3-0 in the fourth round, and Marco Silva's team defeated Championship leaders Ipswich Town 3-1.

Even though Sean Dyche's Everton soldiers—some of whom may still be in shock at their historic 10-point deduction—have a burning desire to succeed, they have turned their ire into a run of excellent, championship-caliber performances.

Many anticipated that Dyche would teach his former team a lesson in football on Saturday, after they had already defeated Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Chelsea this month without giving up a goal. This expectation was realized in the evening kickoff.

With 19 minutes remaining, Amadou Onana's towering header put the Toffees ahead. Michael Keane, a former player for the Clarets, rubber-stamped the victory with a straightforward finish at the second bite of the cherry. The defender did not hold back in his celebrations as he increased Everton's chances of surviving at the expense of their humble hosts.

It seemed that Burnley manager Vincent Kompany had not taken any lessons from Everton's 3-0 EFL Cup fourth-round victory in November. Everton had narrowly prevailed away at Doncaster Rovers and Aston Villa to increase their hopes of winning the tournament for the first time.

The Toffees made it to the penultimate hurdle for the first time since the 2015–16 season, when they were defeated by Manchester City in the semi-finals. The team participated in the quarterfinals two consecutive years in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 campaigns, but their dreams of glory were dashed by Leicester City and Manchester United in those campaigns.

With Dyche making a spectacular comeback to his former haunt this past weekend, former Everton manager Marco Silva will try to emulate his rival on Tuesday, when the Cottagers might be 90 minutes from making their first-ever EFL Cup semifinal appearance.

Following back-to-back 5-0 annihilations of West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, along with three goals against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, Fulham was expected to exhibit their newly discovered Midas touch against a Newcastle United team dealing with injuries, exhaustion, and heartache in Europe following their devastating Champions League defeat to AC Milan.

However, Fulham's dreams of a third straight victory vanished in a second-half onslaught, as Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron, and Dan Burn condemned the Cottagers to a third consecutive road defeat after Raul Jimenez was sent off for shockingly clattering Sean Longstaff.

Silva's team hasn't won away from home in the EFL Cup since November's 3-1 victory over Ipswich, which came after victories at home against Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City. However, that victory at Portman Road guaranteed that the Cottagers would record their best result in the competition in 19 years, having last advanced to the quarterfinals in 2004–05.

That year, Fulham lost 2-1 to Chelsea, their bitter rivals in West London. However, recent history has been on the capital team's side, as they have won three of their last four meetings with Everton and pulled off a thrilling 1-0 victory at Goodison on the first day of the 2023–24 Premier League season.
