Switzerland is gearing up to maintain their top position in Group I of Euro 2024 qualifiers as they prepare to face Kosovo at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium this Saturday night.

Kosovo, the hosts, have shown resilience by remaining unbeaten in their first four qualifiers. However, the Swiss visitors are still seeking their first victory.

Kosovo narrowly missed out on reaching Euro 2020, losing in the playoff semi-finals to North Macedonia. Unfortunately, their start in Euro 2024 qualifying has been sluggish, accumulating just three points from their initial four fixtures.

Before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Belarus in June, Kosovo managed a string of draws in friendly matches and against Israel, Andorra, and Romania in Group I. Despite dominating much of the match, they couldn't secure a win, with Belarus triumphing with two late goals.

Ranked 109th in the world by FIFA, Kosovo faces a formidable challenge against Switzerland in Group I. They previously drew 1-1 with Switzerland in March 2022.

Kosovo has shown strength on their home turf, losing only one of their last eight home internationals since the start of 2022. However, their away record is less impressive, with only one win in their last six away fixtures during the same period.

Switzerland is determined to qualify for their third consecutive European Championships and currently leads Group I with 10 points after four matches. They began the qualifiers impressively, winning their first three matches against Belarus, Israel, and Andorra with a total score of 10-1. However, their perfect record was marred by a 2-2 draw against Romania in June.

Coach Murat Yakin emphasizes the importance of their upcoming matches against Kosovo and Andorra to secure their place in the finals in Germany.

Switzerland, ranked 13th in the world by FIFA, is confident about earning maximum points in their upcoming matches against Kosovo and Andorra, both of which are ranked outside the top 100.

In terms of lineup, Kosovo is expected to maintain a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Amir Rrahmani leading the defense. Florent Muslija may step into the number 10 role in the absence of Bersant Celina. Vedat Muriqi, with 24 goals in 48 international appearances, will lead the attack.

Switzerland has recalled several players, including Noah Okafor, Cedric Itten, Ardon Jashari, and Dan Ndoye, while midfielder Filip Ugrinic receives his first senior call-up. Granit Xhaka is expected to captain the team in midfield, and Zeki Amdouni will play up front, supported by Xherdan Shaqiri and Ruben Vargas.

Switzerland aims to return to their winning ways in Group I when they face Kosovo at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium on Saturday. They currently lead the group with ten points, with their perfect record only marred by a late draw against Romania in June.

Zeki Amdouni has emerged as a star for Switzerland, scoring five goals in four qualifying matches. This young talent has nearly doubled Kosovo's total goals in this group, as they have managed to score only three times in four games.

Kosovo's hopes of competing for the top two spots in the group suffered setbacks with a draw against Andorra and a defeat to Belarus in their recent matches. These results led to a change in management, with Primo Gliha taking over as coach in July.

This match between Kosovo and Switzerland marks their first competitive head-to-head clash, although they played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly in March the previous year.
