In stark contrast to PSV's impeccable performance, Volendam finds themselves in a precarious position, occupying the second-to-last spot in the Eredivisie table with only one point to their name from five matches, and they have yet to secure a win in their campaign. The unfortunate reality is that they share the distinction of being one of only two teams in the league, the other being Almere, who have failed to register a victory in the current season.
Volendam's season began on a challenging note, marked by a string of four consecutive defeats. However, there is a glimmer of hope in their recent performance, as they managed to salvage their first point through a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Heracles. Although the visitors surged to a 2-0 lead early in the second half, Volendam exhibited remarkable resilience, staging a late comeback by scoring two goals within the last 20 minutes to level the match.
Last season, in 2022-23, marked Volendam's return to this level of competition after more than a decade. Their accomplishment of finishing eight points above 16th-placed Emmen was a noteworthy achievement for the club during that season.
Armando Obispo, a 24-year-old center back who is now out with a major knee injury sustained in March, will be unavailable for PSV. The hosts will also have to play without left-back Mauro Junior this weekend due to a knee injury and a suspension from last season that has been carried over for one match.
Koen Blommestijn is back at Volendam after a productive loan stint in the Dutch second division.
