In a bid to maintain their aspirations for the Scottish crown, Rangers are set to host Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium in a Scottish Premiership showdown this Sunday afternoon.

In their recent outing, Rangers secured a crucial three points against St Mirren, while Kilmarnock could only manage a draw at home against Hearts.

Rangers kicked off their post-split fixtures with a significant win at the SMISA Stadium last Sunday. Despite facing a comeback from St Mirren, Rangers emerged victorious, keeping alive their hopes of challenging Celtic for the Premiership title as they head into May.

The visitors took the lead with an own goal from St Mirren's James Bolton, but Mikael Mandron equalized for St Mirren later in the first half. However, Rangers had the last word of the day thanks to Cyriel Dessers, who scored his 14th goal of the Premiership season.

Heading into the final four games of the 2023–24 league season, Rangers are three points behind league leaders Celtic, whom they will visit on May 11 in a match that could determine the winner of the championship. Philippe Clement's team is presently in second position.

The Rangers have already played Kilmarnock three times this season and have accumulated six points from those encounters. However, one of Rangers' six league losses came against Killie on the first day of the season in August, when Brad Lyons scored the game's lone goal.

James Tavernier, a right-back, has scored 17 goals for Rangers this season, but 12 of those goals have come from penalty kicks, making him the unexpected leader in the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Kilmarnock continued their impressive streak of not losing in the Premiership for six consecutive matches in their recent clash against Hearts, where both goalkeepers, Will Dennis and Zander Clark, managed to keep clean sheets at Rugby Park.

With only four matches left in the league season, Kilmarnock are on track for a top-four finish, positioning them well for qualification in the next season's Europa Conference League. They currently hold a nine-point lead over St Mirren, who sit in fifth place.

A major factor contributing to Kilmarnock's success this season has been their strong defensive play under the guidance of head coach Derek McInnes. They've conceded only 34 goals in 34 Premiership matches, a defensive record that only title contenders Celtic (27) and Rangers (24) have surpassed.

Like many teams in the Premiership, Kilmarnock have struggled to consistently secure wins away from home this season. They've managed to earn maximum points from just three of their 16 away league matches. Therefore, their upcoming match against Ibrox on Sunday is expected to be a tough challenge.

Currently, Rangers are facing the absence of attacker Abdallah Sima due to a hamstring injury sustained during their Scottish Cup win against Hearts. Similarly, Ridvan Yilmaz hasn't been in action for the team since he also suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Turkey in March.

Ryan Jack, a seasoned player, is also unavailable for Rangers as he recuperates from an injury sustained in March during a match against Benfica in the Europa League.

Kilmarnock's squad has been missing Kyle Magennis for a significant period, as he hasn't played since December due to a serious hamstring injury. In Magennis's absence, Liam Polworth and Liam Donnelly have taken charge of midfield duties, while Kyle Vassell and striker Marley Watkins, who has scored nine goals, have been leading the attacking front.
