The Bhoys will seek to maintain their perfect start in the Scottish Premiership season when they visit the St Mirren on Sunday.

They started their title defence in the English Premier League and scooped the first two matches, while their hosts exited the cup last weekend with three points achieved in the first two league fixtures.

St Mirren will be in action on Sunday hoping to end a run of three consecutive losses in all competitions after having started the season brightly.

In fact, the Saints started the 2024/25 term by overcoming Valur Reykjavik in the Europa Conference League qualfiers and<|reserved_special_token_260|> a resounding 3-0 victory over Hibernian in their Scottish Premiership opening fixture; from Roland Idowu strike and Oisin Smyth’s brace, however, they struggled in the recent weeks, after a 1-1 away draw in the home leg of their third qualifying round

Stephen Robinson’s men traveled to Aberdeen for their second encounter in the group and lost 3-1 with Toyosi Olusanya equalizing in the first half before facing Brann in the second leg and being knocked out of the qualifying due to the 3-1 loss on the night in Norway only for the hosts to regain the lead 5 minutes to fulltime.

In a bid to move past that, the Paisley outfit last played Dundee United in a Scottish League Cup second round match on the Sunday and the streak of consecutive losses continued as they were knocked out of the competition after being held to a 1-0 loss at Tannadice Park where the only goal of the match was scored by Ross Graham in the first half.

After those cup exits, St Mirren's whole attention is now on their Scottish Premiership aspirations. They will now want to increase their point total to three this weekend by winning at home.

That won't be an easy feat, though, as the reigning champions come in hoping to win four straight games this season in all competitions and three straight league games.

After finishing first on the table with 93 points in the previous season, eight ahead of rivals Rangers, Celtic embarked on a mission to win the Scottish Premiership for the fourth time in a row, 13th in a 14-year run, and 55th overall. This is their second season under the guidance of returning manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Glasgow giants have also started the season in a typically forceful manner, winning their first two top-flight games without giving up a goal. In their opening 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock, Reo Hatate, Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn, and Anthony Ralston all found the net, and in their 2-0 victory away at Hibernian, Kuhn and Callum McGregor added goals.

Sunday's Scottish League Cup matchup with Hibernian was the second one that the Bhoys faced off against. This time, they prevailed 3-1 thanks to early goals from Daizen Maeda and Kuhn, who extended their lead to two goals just before the hour. After getting going swiftly this season, Celtic will now look to build on their winning start to their championship defense on Sunday by winning handily once more.
