Bayern 2-0 Freiburg | Post Match

A commanding victory to mark the first home game of the season! In front of their own fans in the Allianz Arena, FC Bayern celebrated a 2-0 win against SC Freiburg on Sunday evening and thus clinched their second set of three points in two games of the still young Bundesliga season. The coach and players were correspondingly satisfied after the game. “We won 2-0 and that's good,” said head coach Vincent Kompany. The performance in the first half, in particular, was once again convincing over long stretches, as Joshua Kimmich underlined: “Both against Wolfsburg and today, the first half was very controlled.” fcbayern.com has more of the post-match reaction.

Max Eberl (board member for sport): “Two games, two wins – that’s on target. It's all good. If you've won, you've done a lot of things right. It's nice when the coach tries something and tries to be offensive. Freiburg always fly a bit under the radar – beating Stuttgart for example – are incredibly strong on the ball, and make virtually no mistakes. It also took a penalty for us to go ahead 1-0. We outplayed them and didn't concede a goal.”

Vincent Kompany: "We always strive for a perfect game, but today was another good first half. Dominant, didn't give anything away and had chances to score goals. In the second half, we were perhaps not quite as quick with the second balls. If you win them like we did in the first half, then everything looks calm. But we won 2-0 and that's good. The positional play was good in the first half. You could see in the second half that we still need to find our rhythm. With every win we take another step forward.”

Manuel Neuer: “It was a good performance. The season is still very young. The important thing was that we kept a clean sheet, that we were the better team and are slowly getting into our stride.”

Thomas Müller: Thomas Müller: “It was a good game because we were largely in control, especially in the first half. Freiburg made it difficult for us, but hardly had a chance of their own. In the second half, our play became a bit more unsettled. All in all, we deserved to win and rose to the challenge at hand. I knew what to expect. Records aren't that important to me, it was more important to me to have scored a simply beautiful goal. It was technically outstanding and then it went in. That's what I enjoy. In the end, it's the details that decide whether it's good or not so good. A lot of time and detail-orientated work is invested at this level. If you want to get through tight defensive lines, then centimetres can make the difference. I try to pass on my strengths to my teammates.”

Reaction from the Freiburg camp

Julian Schuster (head coach):  “Compliments to my team. They worked very hard and did well. Hat’s off to them. It's a shame and I feel sorry for the boys. We conceded the second goal in a phase where the game was balanced. We should have used our spells of possession more wisely. We let very little get past us, especially in the second half. There were a lot of positive things today.“

Christian Günter (captain): "We took possession quite a few times in the first half, but then played too sloppily. Nevertheless, we had one or two chances. Bayern didn't have that many chances in the first half either. Then we fell behind through a penalty. In the second half, we got back into it well and had chances. You just can’t defend everything against this level of quality and then Thomas simply scores another world-class goal. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough in the end.”

Max Rosenfelder (defender): "It was foreseeable that Bayern would see most of the possession. We wanted to go into the game with courage. We didn't succeed in this manner in the first half and when we did win the ball, we were too sloppy. We quickly lost the ball again. That made our evening in Munich difficult. We didn't let much get past us.”
