Man Utd defeats Lyon 5–4 after an incredible late comeback.
In the Europa League quarterfinal, Harry Maguire completes an amazing comeback as Manchester United defeats Lyon 5-4 at Old Trafford to win 7-6 overall. United had led 2-0 but fell behind 4-2 halfway through the second half of extra time.

Despite trailing Lyon by two goals after 113 minutes, Manchester United managed to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in European history, defeating them 5-4 after extra time (7-6 agg).
Harry Maguire's headed winner raised the roof at Old Trafford as United turned the tide of an incredible match in which they led by two goals before giving up four, two of which came with the French team reduced to ten players.
The win maintains the hopes of winning a trophy and playing in the Champions League the next season alive and sets up a Europa League semi-final matchup with Athletic Club. More significantly, it provided one of the most unforgettable United nights for everyone in attendance.
After Manuel Ugarte's early goal, Diogo Dalot doubled the lead in the second half, giving Rubem Amorim's squad the appearance of complete control of the match. Alejandro Garnacho missed a great opportunity to put his team ahead three goals.
Prior to Nicolas Tagliafico finding the equaliser, Corentin Tolisso nodded in to cause anxiety. Rayan Cherki put Lyon ahead in extra time, but even Tolisso's red card was insufficient to turn the tide in their favour.
In the midst of dramatic situations, Alexandre Lacazette scored four goals from the spot, and United was on the ground at that point. However, Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty that Casemiro had won, and Kobbie Mainoo's stunning goal in the 120th minute tied the score.
Maguire, who had played as a stand-in striker in United's plight, got the last word as Lyon was astonished. Players and fans drank in a game for the ages as the celebrations began immediately and continued long after the final whistle.
How did Manchester United make a comeback?
Where would you rank that? It's among the most incredible games. Before a hat-trick of late goals sealed an Old Trafford comeback worthy of the greatest moments at this legendary club, United was two goals ahead but two behind, and all hope was all but gone.
Before kickoff, United's five captains performed a moving tifo in front of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, raising a European trophy on it. What's written on that tifo? Never. Going to. Give up. The stories they recount are a part of United's mythology.
Include this in the stories that will be told for years to come. This is not the Champions League, nor is it 1999 or Camp Nou. However, that victory came from a one-point deficit. Five goals were scored in extra time for the first time in major European football history.
All of that will and should be remembered, even the moving finale. Naturally, there were ups and downs, though, as Lyon scored two of them. How did United lose the game in the middle of regular time? And then lose ground to ten?
At that point, fans watched in a different kind of incredulity at the surrender they were witnessing, and it was an exercise in self-destruction. The twist, however, came next. United continued. Abruptly, the pressure changed. Key players demonstrated their abilities.
Casemiro set up the following two goals after winning a penalty. With a twist of those hips, the youthful Mainoo demonstrated that he still enjoys the big occasions. Maguire, too. Maguire had to be the one. The wildest victory of all. Never. I'm going to stop.
Amorim: The world's greatest sound
Speaking to TNT Sports, Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim said:
"The sound in the stadium for Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire's goals was the best sound I have ever [heard]. I merely want to preserve the sound, while many others want to retain clothing. It is the best sound in the world.
"I feel bad for those who were forced to evacuate because to traffic when it was 4-2. They'll be devastated!
"This is a unique moment. We are aware of our poor performance and that we are deserving of all the criticism. However, there is still time to make this season truly memorable.
"We need luck in the injury situation. It will be difficult.
"I had one final in my career. My opponents in the semi-final, Athletic Club, were also hosting the Europa League final in Turin, where I also played the final.
"We lost the final, so let's change that."
