Rangers, looking to bounce back from a previous defeat, are set to face St Mirren in a Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday.
Currently, the hosts sit third in the league with 32 points from eight matches, while the visitors are in eighth place, having accumulated just eight points from their first nine games.
Although the 2024-25 season is not yet at its halfway point, Philippe Clement has faced significant criticism due to Rangers' disappointing start to the campaign. The team struggled in the opening weeks, winning only one of their first four matches across all competitions, which included two draws and one loss. This shaky beginning has made it difficult for Clement to win over the fans.
Following that rough start, Rangers have managed to secure victories in eight of their subsequent 11 matches. However, three dropped points have left them six points adrift of both Celtic and Aberdeen after just eight league games.
After suffering a disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock, Rangers did manage a 4-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League. Yet, with their current position in the league, pressure is mounting on Clement, who will be hoping for a convincing victory on Sunday.
Given Rangers' dominance in the last six encounters between the two sides, they should feel confident about claiming all three points against St Mirren.
Conversely, St Mirren has been struggling, sitting at the bottom of the league standings after three consecutive losses, including a heavy 4-0 defeat to Hearts in their most recent match. Despite starting the season on a positive note with four games unbeaten—featuring two wins and two draws—their form has dramatically declined.
After losing four straight matches in the first round, St Mirren managed to halt the slide with two draws and a win against Hearts. However, they have since fallen back into a losing streak, with three consecutive defeats, including the lackluster 4-0 loss to Hearts.
Historically, St Mirren has found it challenging against Rangers, winning only one of their last 26 meetings. This fact adds pressure on Robinson’s team as they seek to turn their fortunes around with a win over Rangers.
Injuries will also affect St Mirren, as Richard Taylor, Conor McMenamin, and Alex Iacovitti will miss the match.
Rangers’ previous outing saw them suffer a narrow 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock in the dying minutes, which left them six points behind Aberdeen and Celtic. Meanwhile, in Neil Critchley’s first game as manager, St Mirren faced a 4-0 defeat away to Hearts, continuing the new manager's struggles at Tynecastle. Ironically, St Mirren's only league win in their last eight matches (W1-D2-L5) came against Hearts in Critchley's last game in charge, but they have now lost their last three.
