Last season was challenging for Rayo, who struggled and finished in 17th place on the league table. However, the start of the 2024-25 season has shown promise for the Madrid-based club.
Currently, Rayo Vallecano boasts a record of two wins, three draws, and two losses from seven matches, totaling nine points and placing them 10th in the standings, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Although Pérez's squad suffered consecutive defeats against Barcelona and Espanyol at the end of August, September has been more fruitful. After the international break, they triumphed over Osasuna with a 3-1 victory and secured draws against both Atletico Madrid and Girona in their latest outings.
This upcoming clash marks the first encounter between the two teams since June 2021, with Rayo having emerged victorious in their previous two matchups. The last time Leganés managed to defeat Rayo was in December 2020.
Rayo Vallecano is enjoying its most promising spell in the top tier since 2016 and is keen to solidify their place in La Liga with a strong performance this season.
Leganés: Aiming for Stability in Top Flight
Leganés, under the guidance of manager Borja Jiménez, returned to La Liga after securing the Segunda División title last season, marking their return to the top flight following four years in the second tier.
This season, Leganés has recorded one win, three draws, and three losses in their seven matches, accumulating six points and currently sitting in 15th place, just one point above the relegation zone.
Their campaign kicked off with a 1-1 draw against Osasuna, followed by a 2-1 victory over Las Palmas. However, the team has struggled to find form lately, earning only two points from their last five matches, with defeats against Mallorca, Real Betis, and Athletic Bilbao around the September international break.
On a more positive note, Leganés heads into this match buoyed by their recent 1-1 draw against Getafe last weekend. In that match, Jorge Saenz put the newly-promoted side ahead in the 76th minute, only for Borja Mayoral to equalize from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.
