Real Madrid wins La Liga following Girona's victory over Barcelona.

Real Madrid defeated Cádiz on Saturday to win La Liga, giving Madrid an unstoppable advantage at the top after rival Barcelona's defeat against Girona. 

Madrid now has 87 points from 34 games after defeating Cádiz 3-0 at the Bernabéu. With just four games remaining, Girona moved into second place, 13 points behind Madrid, after defeating Barça 4-2 at Montilivi on Saturday.

As they get ready to play Bayern Munich in their Champions League semifinal second leg on Wednesday, the Spanish powerhouses still have a chance to win both La Liga and the Champions League this season. In the first leg, the teams were deadlocked 2-2. 

Before Barça's defeat officially sealed the championship, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti stated that his players would rejoice when the time came and that they wanted to concentrate on that semifinal. 

"The dressing room is very calm; we have time to celebrate," he stated. "Now our objective is to be 100% on Wednesday, which could give us the big opportunity to play another final, so there's no bigger motivation than that—an extraordinary opportunity to finish well in a season that has been spectacular so far."

Real Madrid has won 36 league titles in 2023–24, which is more than any other La Liga team. It happens in spite of a season ruined by major players suffering chronic injuries. 

Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper, and Éder Militão and David Alaba, the defenders, all sustained ACL tears; Courtois and Militão have only recently returned to play.
