Sevilla vs. Celta Vigo | La Liga | Pre Match
Sevilla vs. Celta Vigo
Celta Vigo will be aiming to make it three straight wins in all competitions when they head to Estadio Ramon to tackle Sevilla.
The visitors are currently 10th in the La Liga table, boasting 21 points from their opening 16 matches of the 2024-25 campaign, while Sevilla are 13th, collecting 19 points from their first 16 games.
Sevilla were involved in a seven-goal thriller with Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday; the visitors actually lead 3-1 in the second period of the contest, only to concede three times in the final 30 minutes to suffer a 4-3 loss.
The defeat was the team's seventh in the league this season, and it has left them in 13th spot in the table on 19 points, two points behind their opponents at Estadio Ramon on Saturday evening.
Sevilla finished 14th in La Liga last season, which represented their worst top-flight campaign since being relegated at the end of the 1999-2000 campaign, so there is plenty of room for improvement in 2024-25.
Garcia Pimienta's side have picked up 13 points from their eight home league matches this season, winning four times in the process, and they will be hosting a Celta outfit with just one away league success to their name this term.
Sevilla have not actually beaten Celta in La Liga since October 2021, and the Sky Blues were 2-1 winners in their contest at Estadio Ramon last term, but four of their last five top-flight meetings have finished all square.
Celta will enter this match off the back of a 2-0 home success over Mallorca in La Liga, with that result following a 7-0 victory over Salamanca UDS in the Copa del Rey at the start of the month.
Claudio Giraldez's side have a record of six wins, three draws and seven defeats from their 16 league matches this season, with 21 points leaving them in 10th spot in the table, only five points behind fifth-placed Villarreal.
Celta have been a good watch in La Liga this term, having scored 25 times but also conceded 27, with their defensive record actually the joint-third worst in the league behind Real Valladolid (34) and Espanyol (28).
The Sky Blues finished 13th in La Liga last season but have shown enough this term to suggest that they can push into the top half, which last occurred in 2020-21, with the team finishing in eighth.
Celta are unbeaten at Estadio Ramon in La Liga since November 2020, and as mentioned, they recorded a 2-1 victory when the pair locked horns in the corresponding game during the 2023-24 campaign.
