Spurs secure a Europa League last-16 spot with the aid of an academy trio.

With a 3-0 victory over Elfsborg in north London, academy graduates Mikey Moore, Damola Ajayi, and Dane Scarlett scored their first goals for Tottenham to guarantee their spot in the Europa League last 16.

Scarlett scored the goal by latching onto an inswinging Dejan Kulusevski cross after Radu Dragusin, who had been brought on at halftime, was injured.

Moore scored in injury time to complete a flawless evening for the Spurs academy, while Ajayi, who was brought on in the 81st minute, took just over three minutes to score his first goal.

Tottenham avoided the play-offs with the victory, securing fourth place. They will now face either Union Saint-Gilloise, AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad, or Olympiakos in the round of 16.

Elfsborg, who were cheered on by a boisterous travelling crowd that was witnessing the Swedish team play in just their second competitive match since December 12, frustrated Spurs in the opening stages.

Isak Pettersson, the custodian for Elfsborg, stopped Tottenham's early attack by making two point-blank saves to keep out Moore and Pape Sarr.

Spurs saw some changes at halftime, as Dragusin replaced Micky van de Ven, who had returned from injury, while Heung-Min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur also made way.

Ange Postecoglou will be concerned by the growing number of injuries, but Tottenham's youthful players performed admirably to start a crucial run of games. Before going to Liverpool for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, they will go to Brentford on Sunday in an attempt to snap a four-game losing streak in the Premier League.

'Tottenham lads' score well for the team, says Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou

It's been a difficult time, especially in terms of our league performance, as I keep emphasising. However, I think there has been genuine progress. At some point, everything will come to pass. I just have a lot of confidence and optimism about that.

"Our entire squad, including the younger players, will grow significantly. I have no doubt that it will be fruitful.

However, at the moment, the focus is on attempting to resolve the current problems. Our fans may identify with that because those three guys and other musicians who have performed for us were likely in the terraces at one point.

"Even if we're in a difficult league situation, I believe that everyone would find it really entertaining that three young Tottenham boys scored on a European night. It's fantastic for the club, in my opinion.
