On Sunday, Stuttgart will seek to secure their second victory of the Bundesliga season when they face Nuri Sahin’s Borussia Dortmund at MHPArena.

Last season, Stuttgart finished in second place in the league. However, their current campaign has seen them earn only four points from a possible nine, placing them 11th in the standings. In contrast, Borussia Dortmund occupies the second position with seven points and recently triumphed 4-2 against Heidenheim on September 13.

Stuttgart has experienced a challenging start to the 2024-25 season. They faced a heartbreaking defeat in the German Super Cup final, losing on penalties to Bayer Leverkusen on August 17. Their league campaign began with a 3-1 loss to Freiburg on August 24.

Despite only managing one win in their last three Bundesliga outings, Stuttgart boasts an impressive home record. They remain unbeaten in their last 13 league matches at MHPArena, amassing 14 wins, seven draws, and just one loss in their last 22 home fixtures in the top flight.

On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund has begun their season under Nuri Sahin on a positive note, winning four out of five matches since he took charge. Their successful run includes a notable 3-0 victory against Club Brugge in their first Champions League match of the 2024-25 season on September 18. Although BVB struggled to find the net against the resilient Belgian side until the 76th minute, they ultimately secured a convincing win.

A standout player for Dortmund has been English prodigy Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who scored two goals against Club Brugge after coming off the bench in the 68th minute. The 20-year-old forward has already notched four goals in just 180 minutes of competitive action this season, showcasing significant development early in his senior career.

Sahin has introduced a more aggressive, attacking style of play compared to his predecessor Edin Terzic. This change has already yielded results, with Dortmund managing to keep two clean sheets in the league—matching their total from the previous eight Bundesliga games.

However, Dortmund's recent away form raises some concerns. They have lost two and drawn one of their last three league matches on the road, although they previously won four consecutive away games in the top flight.
