Arne Slot might have already revealed a significant clue regarding the future of the Liverpool star.

One Liverpool player may not have a long-term future at Anfield, as Arne Slot may have already suggested. The Reds are presently getting ready for Sunday's Premier League matchup against Manchester City at Anfield, which is at the top of the table.

Liverpool leads City by eight points going into the match, and a victory over Pep Guardiola's team may increase that margin to eleven points. Ever since Alisson Becker sustained a hamstring injury away at Crystal Palace on October 5, Caoimhin Kelleher has been Liverpool's starting goalie.

The Republic of Ireland international has since started eight of the previous nine games while maintaining four clean sheets. Following rumours that the Republic of Ireland international would leave Anfield last summer, Kelleher's future has been the focus of conjecture in recent months.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, who spent the season on loan in Spain, will not formally come to Merseyside until next summer, although Liverpool made the move to sign him from Valencia within the same transfer window. With Vitezslav Jaros, Alisson, Kelleher, and Mamardashvili on Liverpool's roster, it is unclear what will happen with the goalkeeping unit at the end of the season. Kelleher will undoubtedly be benched shortly since Slot stated earlier this month that Alisson would rejoin the lineup after his injury is healed.

After the victory over Aston Villa on November 9, Slot told reporters, "First and foremost, Alisson needs to get fit. I've always been very clear, and that's always been Alisson's position that he is, and will be, our first custodian if he is fit."

However, Caoimhin [Kelleher] has performed admirably both this season and last, so he must be it first. However, Alisson will be our #1 goalie as soon as he is well.

Over the past two games, Kelleher has shown his value to Liverpool by stopping penalties against Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid and Adam Armstrong for Southampton. Slot reaffirmed his earlier statement when questioned about the 26-year-old's position in the squad in relation to Alisson following the Reds' Champions League victory against Madrid.

"Every decision I have to make is a difficult one because I have so many quality players, but I think I have been clear about that situation (with Alisson being first choice over Kelleher)," Slot told the media on Wednesday.

However, that shouldn't be the focus of tonight; rather, it should centre on how crucial Caoimhin is to us. For him, it was a significant event.

"I thought the same thing as everyone else when Mo Salah moved up: this ball is surely going to go in if you see Mbappe behind the ball. Let it be the headlines and not the other thing I made very clear a few weeks ago because he saved it and it was a significant occasion for him."
