Roma travel to Torino on Serie A’s final matchday, aiming to complete a remarkable turnaround and secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Veteran manager Claudio Ranieri, who has rejuvenated his hometown club, could cap off his storied career by guiding the Giallorossi into fourth place — though they’ll also need favorable results elsewhere on Sunday.

After a chaotic start to the 2024–25 season, which included parting ways with club legend Daniele De Rossi and enduring a brief, turbulent period under Ivan Juric, Roma have defied expectations and are still in the hunt for a top-four finish heading into the final round.

Their 3-1 victory over AC Milan last week kept the dream alive. Gianluca Mancini opened the scoring to calm early nerves, and Milan’s red card tipped the balance further in Roma’s favor. Now, a dramatic season finale awaits.

Juventus, who face relegation-threatened Venezia, are one point ahead of Roma and two above Lazio, and currently hold fourth. But if Juve slip up, both Rome clubs are ready to seize the opportunity.

If teams finish level on points, Serie A tie-breakers start with head-to-head records, followed by goal difference and goals scored. Juventus currently edge Roma with a +22 goal difference compared to Roma’s +19 and have one more goal overall. If all else is equal, a coin toss would be used to decide the final Champions League spot.

Ranieri’s Roma surged through the table in 2025, going 19 games unbeaten in Serie A before falling to Atalanta — a defeat that may yet prove decisive. Still, they’ve conceded just 11 goals and kept 10 clean sheets in the calendar year, a testament to their resilience.

Sunday marks Ranieri’s 501st and final Serie A game — nearly 35 years after his managerial debut. A Champions League return after seven seasons would be a fitting end to his third spell with the capital club.

History suggests Torino may not pose a serious threat. Roma have won five of their last seven visits to face the Granata and are unbeaten in nine of the last 10 meetings. Torino have little to play for, with a top-half finish now out of reach following a poor run of one win in eight.

After a 1-0 defeat to Lecce last week and just one goal scored in their last four matches, Paolo Vanoli’s side seem to be looking ahead to the summer break. Although they won’t want to do city rivals Juventus any favors, Torino will still aim to end the season positively at home — but another loss could drop them to 12th.
