As the outstanding Bournemouth team runs wild at Old Trafford, Manchester United surrenders.

With Manchester United's fortunes continue to produce inconsistent results under new manager Ruben Amorim, jeers erupted after Bournemouth's outstanding victory of 3-0 at Old Trafford for the second consecutive season.

Erik ten Hag oversaw the Cherries' previous three-goal home victory over Manchester United a year ago, but identical mistakes and a glaring set-piece weakness have prevented a change in the outcome despite a manager change.

The hosts at least put in a lot of effort without getting rewarded in the opening forty-five minutes, but they lost badly after the interval and lacked the cunning to attack in the attacking third, which may have further raised questions about Amorim's choice to bench Marcus Rashford for the third straight game.

The most recent player to take advantage of United's shoddy set-piece defence was Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth, who glanced home the first goal from Ryan Christie's free kick when he went unchallenged. And that was only the beginning of a performance that started to go horribly wrong.

Two minutes and eight seconds apart, Justin Kluivert's penalty and Antoine Semenyo's goal in the second period dealt Amorim the greatest blow of his brief tenure thus far, condemning United to their seventh Premier League defeat of the year.

Although the Portuguese head coach had always cautioned that there will be setbacks, a fourth loss in his ninth game as manager highlights how serious the problems are.

United remains stuck in 13th place, its lowest position at Christmas since 1989-90, while Andoni Iraloa's team jumps up to fifth place in the standings.

Amorim: Set-pieces cause us to suffer.

Ruben Amorim, head coach of Manchester United:

It's challenging. It is difficult to aim for two or three victories in this situation. We're making an effort. However, this game was difficult for us.

"Under no circumstances did we struggle at set-pieces once more. The stadium made us a little anxious.

"With several clear chances, we dominated the remainder of the first half. The penalty and subsequent goal in the second half were really difficult for everyone present.

"Everything is difficult for us at times like this. We want to score again after the penalty and set pieces, but we are too anxious. We must oppose this.

"We made an effort to score, but ultimately, it was a difficult game in a difficult circumstance. We must go on.

Iraola: We weren't outstanding, but we were solid.
Andoni Iraola, head coach of Bournemouth:

Since we're a short team otherwise, I'm glad we were more clinical tonight and scored from a set-play, which gives us the opportunity to pose a greater danger.

"The performance was good. Solid, but not great. I'm glad we continued to play in the same manner and to the very finish.

"We have 28 points, which is wonderful. Everyone is really busy, but that's a decent number to have at Christmas. We'll attempt to maximise both of our remaining opportunities this week."
