Werder Bremen hopes to return victory in the next Bundesliga round when it goes up against Holstein Kiel on Saturday at Weserstadion.

The hosts started the match last weekend with a 4-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach the visitors started the match with a victory of a first three-point haul away to Heidenheim.

With nine games played in the current campaign, Werder Bremen a average of one point per game and are currently sitting on 12 points in the league table after the end of the first nine matches of the season.

Stabilising after two inspiring victories, with 4-2 win over Wolfsburg and a 2-2 draw against Leverkusen, the River Islanders were outclassed last week by Monchengladbach with 3 goals in the first half and ending the match with ten men on the field.

Ole Werner’s side will now go back to the Weserstadion but their home form has this season has been very terrible as they have only got 2 of their 12 points at this stadium, and for the first time since the 2017/2018 season, they have not won any of the first four home games.

Also, the Green and Whites are one of two teams out of the 18 teams in the top flight, the other being FC St. Pauli, that are yet to be leading at any point of their home league this season, and the 2 goals are the second poorest of the division.

Most notably, Werder Bremen were the only team in the Bundesliga last season to not secure a victory against the two newly promoted teams and have lost 4 out of 5 games against top-flight promoted teams in total.

In the meantime, Holstein Kiel eventually recorded their first Bundesliga victory after two months of play, defeating Heidenheim 1-0 last Thursday with Patrick Erras scoring the lone goal.

The Storks had only managed two points from their first eight top-flight games before that triumph, and those came from 2-2 ties with Bayer Leverkusen before the October international break and Bochum in September.

With 23 goals conceded in just nine league games this season—the second-highest in the division after cellar club Bochum (29), Marcel Rapp's team's defensive weakness has unquestionably been their biggest problem.

Mitchell Weiser, who was sent off during Werder Bremen's loss to Borussia M'gladbach, and former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita are the two players suspended for this game.

Due to a knock, Abdenego Nankishi was left out of the team for the last game and is probably going to miss this one as well. Marco Grull (hamstring) and Leon Opitz (knock), two more injury absences, will join him on the sidelines this week.

Starting with Colin Kleine-Bekel, a longtime absentee who is projected to miss a significant portion of the season owing to a cruciate ligament injury, Holstein Kiel is scheduled to be missing five first-team players for this encounter.
