Bruno Fernandes' red card against Tottenham was overturned, therefore he will be available for Manchester United's next three Premier League games.

Despite appearing to stumble as he did so, Fernandes was awarded a straight red card during Sunday's first half with United behind 1-0. He had caught Spurs' James Maddison on the lower leg with a high challenge.

United lost 3-0 as referee Chris Kavanagh declared the challenge to be a serious foul play, which was later confirmed by VAR Peter Bankes.

Fernandes will now be available for United's forthcoming Premier League games against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham, though, after his claim of wrongful dismissal was successful.

Fernandes: There was a foul, but no red card was given.

Fernandes disapproved of the on-field referee's decision to send him off, and he told Sky Sports so after the game.

"I don't take him as everyone wants to see it," he replied.

"I take him with my ankle instead of going in with the studs; it's a clear foul, but there's never a red card." Even Maddison, upon standing up, acknowledged that there was a foul but no red card.

It's evident that it's never a red card, and if it were, we would need to examine a number of other instances. Despite the numerous incidents I've had against me, I've never seen a red card come so quickly.

"The interaction is not that strong. If he wants to give me a yellow because it's a counter-attack, I agree and I don't know why VAR doesn't call the referee to the screen.

"For me, it's not a good decision."

Yellow was the wiser choice, according to Gallagher.

Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League referee, stated that a yellow card would have been a better choice.

He stated on Ref Watch, "I don't think the referee can see it."

He is unable to witness the challenge. It's a blow to the glancing leg. "[Kavanagh] has an optical illusion; a yellow card would have been a more agreeable choice."
