As the 2024-25 NBA season enters its final stretch, the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks are set to collide in a high-stakes showdown at Fiserv Forum on Saturday. This matchup marks the first of 10 remaining games for both teams, each looking to rebound from recent defeats and solidify their playoff positioning. With identical 2-3 records over their last five outings, the Bucks and Knicks are desperate to regain momentum as the postseason looms.

The Bucks’ season has been a rollercoaster, and their current form reflects one of their lowest points. Coming off back-to-back losses, including a 127-117 defeat against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, Milwaukee’s struggles have been compounded by significant injury setbacks. The absence of Damian Lillard, sidelined indefinitely due to a blood clot issue, has left a gaping hole in their backcourt. To make matters worse, Giannis Antetokounmpo was also unavailable for the Nuggets clash, forcing the Bucks to rely on a depleted roster.

Despite the disappointing loss, Brook Lopez emerged as a bright spot, delivering a team-high 26 points—his third consecutive 20-point game, a season-first for the veteran center. However, individual performances have not translated into consistent team success. After a promising four-game winning streak between February 28 and March 6, the Bucks have stumbled to a 4-7 record in their last 11 games, slipping from fourth to sixth in the Eastern Conference.

While their playoff berth is virtually secure, Milwaukee must find stability in these final games to avoid entering the postseason on shaky ground. Saturday’s contest kicks off a three-game homestand, but history does not favor the Bucks—they have lost their last four meetings against the Knicks, including both matchups this season. Overcoming this mental hurdle will be crucial if they hope to turn their fortunes around.
The Knicks, meanwhile, are also reeling from a tough loss, falling 126-113 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday. Despite a strong start that saw them build a 13-point lead, their performance unraveled in the second and third quarters, allowing the Clippers to seize control. With Jalen Brunson still sidelined, Karl-Anthony Towns has shouldered the offensive load, posting an impressive 34-point, 14-rebound double-double—his 51st of the season. Yet, his heroics were not enough to secure victory.

New York remains third in the East, a position they are likely to maintain unless a late-season collapse occurs. However, their inconsistency this month—winning back-to-back games only once—raises concerns about their readiness for the playoffs. Saturday’s game against the Bucks could serve as a potential first-round playoff preview, adding extra significance to the outcome.

Both teams rank among the league’s top four in effective field goal percentage, making shot-making efficiency a decisive factor in this matchup. The Bucks must capitalize on their home-court advantage and find ways to compensate for Lillard’s absence, whether through increased production from role players or a dominant performance from Antetokounmpo (if available). For the Knicks, maintaining offensive rhythm without Brunson will be critical, particularly against a Bucks defense that has shown vulnerability.

Beyond immediate redemption, this game carries deeper implications for playoff seeding and psychological momentum. A win for the Bucks could reignite their confidence and help them climb back into the top four, while a Knicks victory would reinforce their status as a legitimate Eastern Conference threat.

As the regular season winds down, every game becomes a potential turning point. For the Bucks and Knicks, Saturday’s clash is more than just another matchup—it’s an opportunity to silence doubters, overcome adversity, and build momentum for the playoffs. With pride, positioning, and postseason preparation on the line, expect a fiercely contested battle between two teams hungry for redemption.
