Douglas Luiz, a talent from Brazil, joins Juventus from Aston Villa.
Douglas Luiz, a midfielder from Brazil, joined Juventus on Sunday for a reported £42.3 million ($53.5 million) from Aston Villa.
Luiz, who was the most recent player to depart Villa Park as a result of the Premier League team's financial fair-play cost-cutting, inked a five-year contract with the Italian team.
The 26-year-old, who joined Villa from Manchester City in 2019, played a significant role in their unexpected fourth-place Premier League result the previous season. He spent five years with Villa.
When Luiz was playing for Brazil at the Copa America, he finished his physical prior to joining Juventus. Luiz scored 22 goals in 204 games for Villa.
"I am truly delighted to be a Bianconero. I'm quite excited to play at Allianz Stadium. "Forza Juve and I'll see you soon!" In a social media video, Luiz stated.
On their website, the Premier League team revealed Douglas Luiz's departure, stating: "Aston Villa can confirm that Douglas Luiz has joined Juventus."
Luiz was chosen as Villa's 2022–2023 Player of the Year after he assisted Brazil in winning an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
However, Villa's manager Unai Emery was compelled to approve Luiz's sale in order for the team to adhere to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Losses up to £105 million over three years are allowed under PSR regulations.
Tim Iroegbunam was already transferred by Villa to Everton for £9 million during the off-season, and Omari Kellyman was acquired by Chelsea for £19 million.
Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has been linked to Tottenham, and Emery has signed Ian Maatsen of Chelsea and Lewis Dobbin of Everton.
Luiz will be joining Juventus, which placed third in Serie A the previous year, 24 points behind Inter Milan, the winners.
