Dundee Vs Hibernian

This weekend, Dundee make the trip to Easter Road for a high-stakes Scottish Premiership encounter against Hibernian, with their survival in the top flight hanging in the balance. Sitting 11th in the table with just six games remaining, Dundee are dangerously close to the relegation playoff spot, meaning every point from here on out could be the difference between staying up or facing the drop to the Scottish Championship.  

Dundee come into this match with a much-needed boost after securing a vital 2-0 victory over St Mirren last weekend. Striker Simon Murray was the standout performer, scoring in both halves to not only strengthen his team’s chances of survival but also dent St Mirren’s hopes of finishing in the top six. Murray’s brace took his league tally to 15 goals for the season, putting him level with Celtic’s Daizen Maeda in the scoring charts.  

Adding to Dundee’s relief was Celtic’s shock defeat to bottom-placed St Johnstone, a result that prevented St Johnstone from closing the gap on Dundee to less than five points. With the league set to split after this weekend’s fixtures, Dundee’s remaining six matches will be a direct battle against the other teams in the bottom half, making their clash against Hibs all the more significant.  

Despite their recent upturn—two wins and a draw in their last five matches—Dundee’s season has been a struggle. After finishing in the top six last campaign, they have endured two prolonged winless runs that have left them fighting for survival. A dismal start saw them win just once in their first seven league games, and a poor run in early 2025—only one victory between January and mid-March—further compounded their troubles. Their recent two wins in three matches equal their total from the previous 14, highlighting just how difficult this season has been.  

While Dundee have been mired in a relegation scrap, Hibernian’s season has been a tale of two halves. After a disastrous start that left them bottom of the table with just one win in their first 14 games, the Hibees have undergone a stunning resurgence. Since then, they have won 12 and drawn five of their last 18 league matches, propelling them to third in the standings. Their last league defeat came against Celtic back in December, and they now boast an impressive 16-game unbeaten run in the Premiership.  

Both Hibs and Dundee have been prolific in front of goal this season, each netting 50 times in 32 matches. However, the key difference lies in their defensive records. Dundee have the leakiest backline in the league, conceding a staggering 67 goals—10 more than St Johnstone, the next worst. Hibs, meanwhile, possess the fourth-best defensive record, a major factor in their rise up the table.  

The two sides have met twice already this season, both encounters occurring during Hibs’ early-season struggles. Dundee took four points from those games, fighting back for a 2-2 draw at Easter Road in August before thrashing Hibs 4-1 in November. That heavy defeat left Hibs seven points behind Dundee at the time, but the tables have since turned dramatically—Hibs now sit 16 points clear of their opponents.  

History does not favor Dundee in this fixture. Hibs are unbeaten in their last 15 top-flight home games against the Dee, a run stretching back to October 2001. If Dundee are to defy the odds and secure a crucial victory, they will need to overcome both Hibs’ formidable home record and their own defensive frailties.  

For Dundee, this match is about survival. With the threat of relegation looming large, every point is precious. Their recent improvement offers hope, but consistency has been their biggest issue this season. Another win could provide the momentum needed to steer clear of the playoff place.
