FC Bayern München vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Bayern Munich have secured their qualification for the Champions League next season with a 2-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Tuchel’s side dominated proceedings, having 62 per cent of the ball. The Champions League semi-finalists took the lead early through a Kane tap in after Laimer pounced on a poor pass in the ninth minute. Frankfurt would go in level at the break as Ekitike equalised midway through the half with a beautiful effort from the edge of the penalty area. But Bayern got ahead in controversial circumstances in the second half despite their dominance, as Muller was deemed to have been struck in the face off the ball in the penalty area. The referee consulted VAR and gave the penalty. Kane converted the spot-kick and this earned all three points. Frankfurt couldn’t find a way back into the game and never looked like troubling Bayern, as displayed with their xG of 0.44 compared to Bayern’s xG of 3.42. Frankfurt will need to look over their shoulder as Freiburg narrowed the gap to them in their battle for qualification to the Europa Conference League to two points. As Kane scored the 400th goal of his career, his side can be pleased as they turn their attention to the Champions League semi-final first leg with Real Madrid this week having qualified for next season's competition after this win.
