Following Brentford's victory, Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag has four new undroppables.
After Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday temporarily relieved pressure on Erik ten Hag's position, the team has to go on a winning streak. Up next? Fenerbahce, under Jose Mourinho. When United travels to Istanbul this week, the stories practically write themselves, but they still have to win.
If they don't succeed, the Red Devils will have only one victory in their first three Europa League games and just one in their first eleven in all of European competition.
Ten Hag's inconsistent rotation has stoked more criticism in the last few weeks. After a promising showing over the weekend, he would do well to refrain from making any changes to his most recent winning recipe.
Express Sport has identified four United players that need to start on Thursday even if they aren't sure they will against Mourinho's team.
Evans Jonny
Ironically, since his unexpected return last summer, Jonny Evans has proven to be one of Ten Hag's most trustworthy players.
There wasn't much of a reason to leave the 36-year-old off the lineup for Brentford's visit to Old Trafford as he performed flawlessly once more.
The first-choice duo for United right now is Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, but Martinez might have to cover at left-back once more if Noussair Mazraoui isn't ready to start.
However, there is a strong case to be made for Evans maintaining his spot next to De Ligt even if Mazraoui makes a comeback to the starting lineup.
Casemiro
A post on X from United's official account stated, "Class is permanent," following Casemiro's performance against Brentford.
After a disappointing 2023–24 campaign, the 32-year-old's second half was very strong and gave hope that he is finally hitting his stride.
Casemiro was also useful moving forward, sitting in front of Ten Hag's back four. His four opportunities created were the most of any player.
Manuel Ugarte is holding out for more chances, but as long as Casemiro continues to play well, he ought to be in the team.
Alejandro Garnacho
This season, Ten Hag has encountered a significant predicament on the right wing before every game. Amad or Alejandro Garnacho?
Amad's inconsistent starts have drawn criticism from supporters, but the United manager has maintained that Garnacho is deserving of a key position.
Given that the 20-year-old has already tallied five goals and three assists this season, there is some validity to that view.
Garnacho is always a bother for defences even when he isn't very effective in front of goal, and he has a close relationship with Marcus Rashford on the other wing.
Hojlund Rasmus
Since recovering from an injury, Rasmus Hojlund has replaced Joshua Zirkzee as United's starting striker, and for good reason.
Against Brentford, the Danish No. 9 put on perhaps his greatest performance since joining the team, setting up plays and pulling Bees defenders all over the pitch.
After a clever flick by Bruno Fernandes, he scored his second goal of the season, and capped it off with a wonderful finish.
If he stays in the starting lineup, there will be a lot more like it.
