Kyle Walker and Man City boss Pep Guardiola point out the team's lack of recuperation following their shocking loss to Bournemouth.

Following a 2-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth handed Man City their first Premier League loss of 2024; Pep Guardiola and Kyle Walker point out that City had three fewer days than their rivals to recuperate.

Kyle Walker and Man City boss Pep Guardiola point out the team's lack of recuperation following their shocking loss to Bournemouth.

Pep Guardiola implied that Man City's shocking loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium was partly caused by their lack of recuperation time.

They had never defeated the Cherries in the league in their existence, but Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson scored to give the Cherries a well-earned 2-1 victory.

After losing 2-1 to Tottenham on Wednesday night, City was eliminated from the Carabao Cup, so they had three days off before travelling south, but Bournemouth had twice that time off after their most recent away game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Guardiola's team lost, dropping to second place two points behind Liverpool, who overcame a deficit to defeat Brighton 2-1.

"Bournemouth had six or seven days, and we were unable to match their intensity. The Spaniard claimed that there was less recuperation from the journey from London.

"We discussed the need to increase the number of duels in that position. We gave them several opportunities, particularly in the closing moments. We had our momentum, but we were unable to defend the long balls, which means you have to defend quite deep.

"The men put their all into it. I know they gave it their all after nine years together, but not enough to take on that squad at that particular time."

Guardiola had discussed in the run-up to the match how many of his players had a 50/50 chance of participating and how injuries were currently hurting the defending Premier League winners.

He mentioned before the game that both John Stones and Ruben Dias would be sidelined for long stretches of time, but neither Savinho nor Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench.

"After 16 days of training, Kyle Walker hasn't completed a single session. "He put forth an amazing effort," Guardiola continued.

"We trained together for the first time yesterday. Due to a niggle, Manuel Akanji was unable to participate in the previous game. Nathan Ake has made an amazing effort while serving in the wars.

"It's not just about that, but you have to focus harder and win a little bit more when you're in that situation.

"We were aware of Bournemouth's success during this stretch of the season, and it was well-earned. We may have maintained our undefeated record under different conditions.

In an interview with Sky Sports on the south coast, Walker shared his manager's thoughts.

It is always disheartening to come here and lose. I believe that there are occasions when you have to play the game with emotion," he remarked.

"With the injuries we have and the six days Bournemouth has had to get ready for this match, sometimes you have to play with your emotions."

"We gave it our best effort in the final ten minutes, but down 2-0 was always going to be difficult.

"Everything about Bournemouth's assault, including the front three and runners in back, must be perfect. Given that this is a different Bournemouth than what we've seen in recent years, the quality must be excellent.

"They are well-organised and disciplined. The outcomes they've gotten in the last few weeks show that.

"That isn't an excuse; we had healthy individuals on the bench and starting today. We must go on to the next one and give Bournemouth all the credit they deserve.
