Patrick Dorgu, a defender for Lecce, has officially joined Manchester United in a £30 million move.
After acquiring 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal earlier this week, the left-back is now Ruben Amorim's first significant acquisition.
The defender, who flew into Manchester on Wednesday to finish his medical at Carrington, is expected to join until 2030 with the possibility of an additional year. The fee is estimated to be £25.2 million plus £4.2 million in add-ons.
The left wing-back was seen as the top priority position upon Amorim's appointment and was the one transfer that was most likely to occur during this window, regardless of the club's circumstances.
The 20-year-old Dorgu, who has four Danish caps, has made 53 appearances for Lecce in Serie A since coming from Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2022.
"Amorim has a very exciting vision."
"I am immensely proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family," Dorgu stated after joining the team.
"I am really excited to collaborate with Ruben Amorim; his outlook on this team and the club's future is truly inspiring. There is a well-defined plan for my growth, and I believe Manchester United is the ideal setting for me to reach my full potential and realise my lofty goals."
Who is Patrick Dorgu?
The fact that Manchester United is interested in Patrick Dorgu shows how rapidly the young Danish player has developed. The Lecce left-back, who only made his senior football debut last year, is eager to advance in his career.
Before Dorgu had made his debut, Lecce, who were resolutely clinging to their Serie A status for a third consecutive season, discovered him in FC Nordsjaelland's renowned academy. The growth of the player is also a source of pride and joy for FCN.
"Our good scouting spotted him quite fast," their technical director, Alexander Riget, has told Sky Sports. Riget had to travel to Jutland to visit him, as did Johannes Hoff Thorup, the current head coach of Norwich City. "It is a five-hour drive from here."
Dorgu was just 12 years old when they noticed anything in him. Despite playing "one year up" for their U13 squad, he wasn't very noteworthy. "He was always a good player but he developed very well a little later, at the age of 16 or 17." He was gone in no time.
"Compared to many of our other players, his route is a little different. They often play between fifty and one hundred games before moving on to a larger club. Is that annoying? "No, we continued to play a significant role in his path. We are quite pleased with his current circumstances."
