Mason Greenwood will be reunited with Manchester United when a "transfer agreement" is reached.

Angel Gomes, a former Manchester United player, is close to making an unexpected transfer to Marseille, joining former teammate Mason Greenwood.  This summer was supposed to mark the expiration of the young English midfielder's contract.

In addition to Premier League teams Tottenham and West Ham showing interest, he has prompted rumors of a potential return to Old Trafford.  Gomes, however, has made the decision to pursue his skills elsewhere.

He has been given a three-year contract at the Stade Velodrome by the French powerhouses, and RMC Sport claims he is close to signing with them.  Under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Gomes has been persuaded by the team's enticing football style, and the allure of playing in the Champions League was too great to resist.

Greenwood, the former United attacker who moved to France last summer and made an impression with 22 goals in his debut season, will be reunited with Gomes at Marseille.  Greenwood has stated a wish to stay at Marseille, especially for the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season, despite rumors of a possible transfer to Barcelona being stoked by their seeming interest.

According to the Express, Greenwood actually expressed his excitement for the event earlier this year when he said, "I hope to be here next year for the Champions League."

"All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special," he said, reflecting favorably on the club's atmosphere.  We've accomplished our goal, and I believe this season has been really great."

Gomes, 24, has been playing for Lille since leaving Manchester United in 2021. The capped England international has made 134 appearances and scored ten goals there.

He had previously acknowledged that he might rejoin United in the future.  His words to L'Equipe were: "It was a really tough choice.  I was considering staying, but in my heart I wanted to go.  But I had to do what my heart told me.  I believed that I needed to advance in my profession. This summer, who should Manchester United sign?  Post your ideas in the comments section below. I thought I wouldn't have had many opportunities if I had stayed.

"Luis Campos [Lille's then sporting director] and Lille spoke about their project and I believed in it even more, that's what convinced me to move - the faith Lille had in me," he added, describing how their vision persuaded him to move.

“Do I imagine myself coming back one day?” he asked himself, thinking of a possible comeback.

"Obviously, it's home," he said, reaffirming the emotional connections.  I'd really like to return.  But with football, you never know."

"I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it," he continued, demonstrating a grounded approach.  I have no way of knowing what the future holds.
