Mbappe makes his injured return, but Madrid loses.

In the Champions League on Wednesday, Real Madrid unexpectedly lost 1-0 in Lille despite Kylian Mbappe's injury comeback.

Mbappe was sent on as a substitute in the 57th minute, but he had no effect because Lille won famously thanks to a penalty kick by Jonathan David in extended time at the end of the first half.

After being undefeated during their thrilling season last year, Real, who had thrashed Stuttgart in their opening match, suffered their first Champions League loss since May 2023.

Juventus pulled off an incredible comeback, scoring twice after a player was sent off, to defeat the hosts, RB Leipzig, 3-2.

After Dusan Vlahovic equalised for the Italian powerhouses halfway through the second half, Benjamin Sesko put Leipzig ahead and then scored from a penalty kick.

Club Brugge defeated Sturm Graz 1-0 thanks to a goal by Christos Tzolis, while Monaco overcame a two-goal deficit to tie 2-2 with Dinamo Zagreb thanks to a penalty kick in the 89th minute by Denis Zakaria.

In other matches, Feyenoord defeated Girona 3-2 on the road in a match that saw eight yellow cards called, while Atalanta defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen to bounce back after a 0-0 tie with Arsenal.
