Ruben Amorim joins Manchester United, captain Bruno Fernandes encourages the head coach to infuse the team with fresh vitality.
After the team's worst Premier League season start, Ruben Amorim takes control.
According to Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, now is the "right moment" for new manager Ruben Amorim to infuse the team with new "energy."
Amorim will become United's sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 when he leads the team in their first match against Ipswich on November 24.
Erik ten Hag, who was fired after two and a half years due to United's worst-ever start to a Premier League season that ended in a 2-1 loss at West Ham, is replaced by the Portuguese. After assuming temporary leadership, Ruud van Nistelrooy stabilised the team with three wins and a draw.
Fernandes, a former Sporting player, thinks Amorim has what it takes to change United's fortunes.
"This is the right moment for him to come, bring his energy, his qualities and his knowledge of football because he did something very special at Sporting," he stated to MUTV.
"I attended practically every Sporting game. One person that revived the club's excitement was [Amorim]. He contributed a lot of positive energy to the club, and perhaps he can do the same here. If the time is perfect, someone can occasionally alter the atmosphere of a place.
"He got them back to winning the league when they had not done so for roughly 20 years. He accomplished this twice in four years with a very [young] club during a period of transition. Hopefully, it will be a moment of success for us.
Ten Hag, the former manager of United, was frequently condemned for United's style of play, with many people thinking the Dutchman was unable to instill a recognisable style.
Under the previous administration, Fernandes himself had not scored this season. During a run of four goals in four games under Van Nistelrooy, he scored his first goal in the opening game after Ten Hag was sent off.
When asked what he finds most exciting about his new employer, Fernandes responded:
"From what I've observed, he's executed incredibly well tactically. It goes without saying that he cannot change his athletic accomplishments to this.
"Our players are diverse, as are our playing styles. But regardless of how he wants to play, I'm confident that his football philosophy will help us succeed."
Fernandes left Sporting prior to Amorim taking over as manager, but he believes that he has seen firsthand how successful Amorim's relationships with players can be.
"His relationship with players is what really sticks out to me. You can tell he's a great guy who gives his all to the players when you see how they treat him, say goodbye to him, and make him feel like a part of the team when the manager leaves your club in the middle of the season with all the things they still have to win.
"I've witnessed numerous instances where players were having trouble, and he would go to the press conference to support them and give them the best chance to succeed.
"He had a really young team so he needed to do that, hopefully, he can do the same with us."
