Vincent Kompany, the manager of Burnley, has been named head coach of Bayern Munich for a three-year term.

After Bayern experienced their first trophy-free season in twelve years, the four-time Premier League champion Kompany will try to regain his winning formula at the German powerhouse.

Vincent Kompany, the manager of Burnley, has been named head coach of Bayern Munich for a three-year term.

After Thomas Tuchel left at the end of the season, the 38-year-old takes his position. Bayern and Burnley agreed to a compensation price of about £10.2 million in order to appoint Kompany.

Despite having a difficult season at Turf Moor following the Clarets' instant relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, the Belgian has decided to join the team.

However, the former captain of Manchester City speaks German fluently and has experience in the Bundesliga from his time playing at Hamburg.

After several attempts to find Tuchel's replacement, including rejections from Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, and head coach of Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso, Bayern brought in Kompany.

After leading Burnley to the Championship title in 2023 during his two seasons in command, Kompany, who started his managerial career at Anderlecht, is leaving the team.

"We can confirm that Burnley Football Club has reached an agreement that will allow Vincent Kompany to leave Turf Moor," a Burnley statement said.

"Although at first we were certain that we could keep our manager, the way things were going changed that made that impossible.

"We appreciate Vincent's desire to pursue new chances and acknowledge the intrigue and grandeur of a team like Bayern Munich.

"We want Vincent to know how much we appreciate his commitment to this football club each and every day, and we wish him all the best. The stability and prosperity of Burnley FC continue to be our top priorities, and we'll keep doing all in our power to make sure that our goal—returning to the Premier League—is accomplished.

"We have started the search for a new manager and will make an announcement in due course."
