Crystal Palace 0–0 Man United: The Premier League match is goalless thanks to Andre Onana and Dean Henderson's heroics.

Erik ten Hag said that Manchester United "ate Crystal Palace alive" during the goalless draw at Selhurst Park thanks to the heroics of goalkeepers Andre Onana and Dean Henderson.

With two outstanding saves against rival Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya—first stopping Eddie Nketiah and then stopping replacement Ismaila Sarr—Onana denied Palace a lead in the second half. His counterpart concluded with seven saves, making the best of the bunch.

If Henderson hadn't made the save, United would have been well out of reach by halftime. Before Onana's double save, the former Carrington graduate made three impressive stops in the first half and then deflected Alejandro Garnacho's looping attempt at full stretch.

During a dominant first half, Bruno Fernandes and Garnacho both struck the crossbar in quick succession for United. Eberechi Eze ought to have penalised them for their carelessness, dismissing two excellent opportunities before the interval. As a result, Palace is still winless in the league.

Ten Hag said to Sky Sports, "I'm not content when we don't win." "We ought to have prevailed. We ate them alive in the first half, I believe. The first half was when we should have scored one or two goals, but the second half was more evenly matched."

Lisandro Martinez should have been sent off, according to Palace manager Oliver Glasner, for stamping on the ball that almost missed Daichi Kamada's thigh in the second half. "[Martinez] could have broken his leg," he stated.

Ten Hag's choice to bench Marcus Rashford, who didn't have much of an impact, after his team scored goals in back-to-back games will undoubtedly come under scrutiny as his team continues to lose ground and finish in the bottom half of the standings.

Was Martinez fortunate to avoid being sent off?

Just after the hour mark, Martinez, a defender for United, rode his luck when he recklessly and needlessly challenged Kamada, a midfield player for Palace, and two-footed the top of the ball.

Martinez was booked, but Palace were adamant that he ought to have been sent off; in fact, Henderson's protestations resulted in a yellow card.

Glasner was taken aback by the choice as well. "[Martinez] was fortunate that he touched the ball and not the shin of our player because he could have broken his leg."

"It seems like he got a little bit of luck there," retired United defender Phil Jones said.

It is hardly necessary for him to enter with both feet. And if he is out there at all, I believe he has seen a different colour card."

"I don't know what on earth you're thinking you're going to gain by jumping in with two feet," Sky Sports analyst Jamie Redknapp continued. You've got him in a good spot, on the edge of [his] box.

"If he lands on Kamada's foot, he goes down, it's a straight red."

Ten Hag: We managed to eat Palace while still alive.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said, "I'm not content when we don't win." We ought to have prevailed. We ate them alive in the first half, I believe. We should have scored one or two goals in the first half, but the second half was more evenly matched.

"I don't think we were let down by our finish. The game was entirely under our control. I thought we played really well both in and out of possession. The game is always determined in the box, which contained the solitary item. That's where we ought to be more clinical.

Regarding the goalkeepers, he continued, "Andre Onana made two incredible saves in one motion; it was truly amazing. It is really challenging for a goaltender to be there for you when you needed them.

"Considering how many balls he stopped, Dean Henderson also had an excellent game. He had a rhythm, but Andre needed to wait, maintain focus, and be exact at the appropriate moment. He performed admirably."

After Redknapp questioned Ten Hag's choice to sit Rashford, Ten Hag also attempted to provide clarification, stating, "I am very happy with Marcus." All that mattered was rotation."

Glasner: Henderson kept us alive

Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, said to Sky Sports: "Dean Henderson kept us alive and in the game in the first half. We had a chance from Eberechi in the end of the first half, and we were much, much better in the second. We were lucky to have a fantastic custodian in the first half.

"We played with greater bravery, were more organised, and had two excellent opportunities to win the game in the second half. We needed to play like a Crystal Palace team in the second half if we wanted to compete with a side like Manchester United."

He continued, "Everything [needed to change]," in reference to the second-half change. Never before have I seen my Crystal Palace squad play with such lack of enthusiasm and confidence in both possession and set plays, among other things, as we did in the first half.

"That demonstrates once more the spirit with which we must adjust at halftime, moving to a 3-5-2 in order to close the centre, and then controlling the game and having our opportunities in their box." In the second half, we played forward more and were more direct even when we won the ball."

Player of the match: Dean Henderson

Against United, the team he joined when he was just a teenager, Henderson put on an almost flawless display, making seven saves overall, three of which were exceptional.

Without Henderson, Palace would have most certainly been behind at the interval.

The 27-year-old said that his best play of the game was blocking Matthijs de Ligt's header from a corner at close range. With an xG of 0.4, the statistics concur that this is the game's biggest opportunity.

In each half, Henderson also produced two excellent saves from Garnacho, who tiptoed over at full stretch for the second, after back peddling before diving to his left for the first.

Although these were Henderson's best moments of the game, his consistency throughout made his entire performance especially noteworthy.

"You have to concentrate so much and it is tiring when you have to do that for a whole half. They have so many threats, inverted wingers, Bruno dropping into the pocket and spinning in behind. It is difficult because you are constantly on your toes," he said.

"I am just delighted to get the clean sheet and happy for the defensive unit that we could get that because it is important for us to build on."

How Man Utd took charge with Dalot

One particular detail stood out to Arne Slot when he described how Liverpool destroyed United in a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford earlier this month: "Their full-backs are sometimes really high." This meant that the opposition's wingers, in this case Mo Salah and Luis Diaz, would frequently find themselves in one-on-one situations, leaving the holding midfielder, in that case Casemiro, stranded. Fortunately, United's coaching staff at Palace made a small adjustment that prevented that from happening: Diogo Dalot was instructed to invert, which allowed United to outnumber Palace.

At halftime, Phil Jones, a Premier League winner with United, stated, "Dalot is coming inside as a No 6 almost and controlling the game from there." "With Dalot coming inside they're creating overloads."

United dominated the game and held control, leaving Palace bewildered by the passing game of Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo, and Christian Eriksen.

Despite giving up some of it after the adjustments, United still had 66.8% of the possession at the end of the match.

Ten Hag's team had enough opportunities to win all three points in the first half alone, but the old issues still exist as they lack the decisive edge needed to accomplish so.

This season, despite having an xG of 9.53, there have only been five goals scored after five league games—a recurring problem. The only team underperforming in this measure by a greater margin is Southampton.

According to reports, INEOS' evaluations of Ten Hag this season will be heavily influenced by United's capacity to control games. This game is definitely progressing, but objectives and outcomes must come next.
