Ian Maatsen: Aston Villa completes the signing of Chelsea's left-back
Ian Maatsen, 22, has completed his £37.5 million move from Chelsea to Aston Villa. Maatsen was on loan at the German club for the second half of the previous season, and Borussia Dortmund expressed interest in him. Maatsen has signed a six-year contract at Villa Park.
The 22-year-old will spend £37.5 million at Villa Park on a six-year contract.
Maatsen's £35 million release clause expired earlier this month, giving Chelsea the opportunity to bargain for the increased amount they settled on with Villa.
Following the defender's successful loan with them during the previous season, Borussia Dortmund expressed interest in signing him permanently. Despite their best efforts, they could not match the initial release clause.
He made seven appearances in the Champions League and scored one goal in his sixteen Bundesliga games for Dortmund.
