Newcastle advanced to their second Carabao Cup final in three seasons after defeating Arsenal.

Newcastle defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg of the semi-final, which helped them win 4-0 overall and advance to the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three seasons.

To secure a spot at Wembley on March 16, Eddie Howe's team extended the lead they had in the first leg at the Emirates on January 7 with goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon.

In Thursday night's other semi-final second leg, the Magpies will now play either Tottenham or Liverpool.

The dream nearly began in a boisterous St. James' Park for Newcastle. With a vicious, devastating finish, Alexander Isak, who entered the game with 14 goals in his previous 13 appearances, broke through the Arsenal defence and hit the net.

The Swede revelled in every moment of the passionate celebrations by the home crowd, but he was swiftly brought back to reality as referee Simon Hooper stated over the PA system that the goal had been disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

However, they did score one that counted fifteen minutes later. William Saliba and Gabriel failed to stop Isak once more as he slammed an unstoppable shot off the left-hand post. For a little moment, Arsenal believed they were safe until Murphy showed up to sweep up and score into an empty net.

Before the break, Gabriel Martinelli went down with a hamstring injury, prompting Arsenal, who did not buy a forward during the January transfer window, to quickly replace him with Ethan Nwaneri.

Gordon grabbed the ball from Saliba's feet three minutes into the second half. With Gunners keeper David Raya out of his line, Gordon attempted a 40-yard shot, but it missed the left-hand post by a narrow margin. Shortly after, however, Arsenal gave their hosts a ticket to Wembley.

Fabian Schar pressed and dispossessed Declan Rice after Raya played the ball to him. Gordon then scored low into the bottom-left corner, ending Arsenal's hopes of tying the score. Newcastle will have the opportunity to end their seventy-year wait for a major trophy in the capital next month.

Howe: Newcastle needs to be at Wembley on a regular basis, but another Wembley final is huge.

Regarding the system change: "On Monday, the work got underway. However, I believe we benefited greatly from the Champions League experience. As a result, we had to work with two-day turnaround times and extremely rapid game plans.

"As you can see, we do adjust and modify our performance based on the opponent. However, we thought that we needed more height in the team and that we needed true solidity at the back, so we felt that we needed to change in order to win the game, and it worked out today.

"I have to say the players deserve the credit because they're following the instruction to the letter."

Upon returning to Wembley: "It's enormous. Although the first Wembley appearance was somewhat surprising and fantastic, we must visit the stadium frequently if we want to be where this club wants to be. We must believe that it is not unexpected.

"Our run hasn't been easy, but we're here on merit. Look at the clubs we've faced—four Premier League teams, if I'm not mistaken—but we've put in the work and now have a chance.

"Hopefully we can learn from the last one and just improve our performance."

Arteta: Difficult to accept

Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, during his press conference:

"We understood that there would be a lot of tension because we've played so many games every three days. Believing that we could reach that point emotionally was an other game. And the game slipped away from us before we knew it.

"This is a difficult one that we must accept. Our expectations were really high. We have to do it on the pitch; there is nothing else we can do. We must now turn to the future. It hurts. We have a lot to play for in Dubai, so we need to rejuvenate.

"We are usually very consistent and calm, but today we gave them hope. Errors are a part of football." They are a dangerous squad when they can run like that, and we were exposed when we let them.

"Despite having some significant moments in the first half, we failed to gain any momentum, despite our high aspirations to turn this around. We failed to capitalise, and they scored the next goal. Then the game changed. In order to score a goal, we then had to maintain our composure, but we were unable to do so. Then, as the game progressed and slipped away from us in the second half, we battled.

"You must be effective in the boxes if you want to win trophies. We haven't [been effective] in our two games against them. That was the primary distinction overall. When the game got more wild today, we were a little uneasy since we usually have more composure, but we didn't have it today."
