Ruud van Nistelrooy leads Leicester 3-1 over West Ham, securing a perfect start at the King Power.

Bilal El Khannouss increased their advantage against the flow of play after Jamie Vardy opened the scoring in the second minute, then Patson Daka and Niclas Fullkrug scored late goals off the bench.

Ruud van Nistelrooy leads Leicester 3-1 over West Ham, securing a perfect start at the King Power.

With a much-needed 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the King Power Stadium, Ruud van Nistelrooy got Leicester City off to the ideal start as manager.

The victory broke the Foxes' six-game losing streak and increased the gap on the bottom three to four points.

However, the loss puts more strain on struggling West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, who during the game was entertained by chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning!" from his own players.

Tim Sherwood said, "I think this is the beginning of the end for Lopetegui," during the Football Special on Sky Sports. "You cannot capitulate like this."

Jamie Vardy scored the first goal in the second minute to launch the new Van Nistelrooy regime. After a drawn-out four-minute VAR review, the veteran striker's goal that had been first disallowed for offside was allowed to stand.

After falling behind, West Ham fought back and came very close through Danny Ings, one of Lopetegui's five substitutes that night, whose header hit the woodwork after a deflection.

Mads Hermansen's five first-half saves kept the Foxes' lead intact going into halftime despite the hosts' increasing pressure.

Leicester extended their advantage through Bilal El Khannouss minutes after West Ham's "equaliser" was disallowed for a foul off the play, despite the visitors' dominance.

The midfielder was found to have obstructed Hermansen in the area before the ball bounced beyond the Foxes 'keeper, and Tomas Soucek was found to be the perpetrator.

Cordova, Bobby-Reid's attempt was disallowed, but the Foxes scored their third goal through Patson Daka in stoppage time to round off a strong debut for the new manager.

Lopetegui's team has already lost eight games this season, but the Spaniard will be hoping that Niclas Fullkrug's goal in the 93rd minute, coming off the bench, will give them more confidence going into their next match against his old team, Wolves.

Sherwood: The start of Lopetegui demise,

Tim Sherwood says:

"West Ham's players on the bench were superior to those on the pitch. I'm also amazed at how defensively they positioned themselves near the midway line. It simply didn't make sense.

"Give Leicester credit even though West Ham's performance was subpar. In my opinion, this is the start of Lopetegui's demise. You can't give up in this way.

"They are acting as though they have just been flung onto the pitch, and they play wherever they land.

"Their play is completely unstructured. The manager is completely mistaken. For Lopetegui, there are more questions than answers. He's had a rough evening.

Lopetegui: We were worthy of much better
Julen Lopetegui, the manager of West Ham, speaking to Amazon Prime:

"This evening is disheartening because we were entitled to much more. Football is a difficult game to play.

"Normally, you have to win this match, but we had 31 shots in the opposition's box. Despite our several opportunities, we failed to score.

Knowing that we have the power to alter the course of events, we will begin searching for the next challenge tomorrow.

"They want to win for the club, for themselves, and for me. The goal of football is to win. We deserved so much more on this particular day. We need to be focused since the following one will be the most crucial.

Van Nistelrooy: We have more options.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, the manager of Leicester, says to Amazon Prime:

"I believe that in order to connect with the audience, we must first get a performance that is full of spirit, energy, and unity, and I believe they succeeded in doing so.

"Everyone working extremely hard, battling for every inch, and tackling and fighting for one another is the cornerstone for us moving ahead. From there, we can look beyond. They accomplished things in an amazing manner.

Emotional turmoil at the King Power

In terms of optimism, there are two sides at different extremes.

For Leicester, it was the ideal way to introduce Van Nistelrooy. His team took opportunities in a way that the manager would have been pleased with when he was a player, and they supported this display with a strong defensive effort.

But things are becoming worse for West Ham every day. When games start to go against them, this team lacks ideas and identity, therefore the victory over Newcastle has just served to cover up the holes.

Lopetegui and his players will probably be dreading the banana-skin match against his old team Wolves, which will be live on Sky Sports next Monday, but one team may look forward to their next game with joy and hope.

The team struggled at the other end against Leicester after having defensive problems against Arsenal. Their constantly shifting midfield further highlights the team's pervasive issues.
