Arne Slot says that Liverpool's triumph over Bournemouth was "a bit weird."
Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 3-0 in the Premier League.
Arne Slot, who lost to Nottingham Forest under rather different circumstances, acknowledged that it was odd that Liverpool did not give up a goal in the triumph over Bournemouth.
After Forest defeated the Reds 1-0 at Anfield last Saturday, the team's undefeated start to the Premier League season came to an end. Even though the visitors only managed three shots on goal, Callum Hudson-Odoi's finish came from outside the box.
Slot was waiting for his troops to respond. They earlier this week defeated AC Milan 3-1 in the Champions League, but the head coach expressed his curiosity about their most recent performance against Bournemouth. Yes, it was a good one as Darwin Nunez scored and Luis Diaz bagged a double as Liverpool crushed the opposition 3-0.
The Cherries did have a few opportunities, particularly in the latter moments, but Reds custodian Caoimhin Kelleher, filling in for the injured Alisson Becker, produced a number of excellent saves. And Slot applauded the advances since the Forest reversal.
"I was really interested to see how we would react after the Milan game, and I told them as much today in the pre-match meeting," Reds head coach Slot said.
It is evident that this squad has a lot of talent, but we are not the only ones. That much is known to me from the beginning, and even before I joined. This league is full of excellent teams. Thus, having a lot of quality makes winning games easy, but mentality is equally important if you want to win more than a few games.
"To see us come back against Nottingham Forest like that was not what you expect from a club that wants to compete for something after the [Manchester] United game, which was a significant win, or a statement win I suppose you call it here in England. I was therefore interested to see how we would respond following the significant victory over AC Milan, and we responded far better than we did against Nottingham Forest.
"I believe that they were only in front of our goal twice against Nottingham Forest. Was the goal they scored a chance? A twenty-yard shot? Compared to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth's team today produced a lot more opportunities against us. However, we generated a lot more than we did against Nottingham Forest, so you generally don't give up many opportunities when you face a low block.
"If we play against a low block, I think we can produce a lot more the longer we work together. It's a little strange that we conceded against Nottingham Forest despite not conceding today, as the opposing team produced far more chances than Nottingham Forest did.
