Manchester United 3-0 Leicester: Following a "special" farewell at Old Trafford, Ruud van Van Nistelrooy is awaiting word on his future.

After a 3-0 victory over Leicester and a "special" farewell at Old Trafford, Ruud van Nistelrooy anticipates having an answer by the end of Monday regarding his future.

The fan favourite rejoined United over the summer as one of Erik ten Hag's coaches after his goal-filled first stint as a member ended in a bitter dispute in 2006.

After Ten Hag was fired, Van Nistelrooy took over as interim manager. He turned the reins over to new head coach Ruben Amorim after his short-term tenure concluded with a crucial league win over Leicester.

From the beginning of the game until the finish, the Old Trafford supporters sang the Dutchman's name, and as he walked around praising the supporters at the end, the contest reached an emotional climax.

"After this block of four games, it felt like closure for that period and the future is open," Van Nistelrooy stated. That's how I experienced it.

"It was a beautiful moment to be able to share that with the supporters and special."

Given that his position on Amorim's new coaching staff is unclear, Van Nistelrooy was asked if it felt like it could be farewell. He responded, "No, I felt like closing this period down, if you say it that way."

"Basically, it was an instant in time, and I think that's what made it so beautiful—the way things came together.

"It was a beautiful moment and it was gratitude from my side to them, and the reception I was able to receive was unbelievable so I can only thank them."

After leading Sporting Lisbon in their league game against Braga on Sunday night for the last time, Amorim begins work at Old Trafford on Monday.

It is unclear if Van Nistelrooy would remain an assistant at a club with which he has a contract through 2026, as the Portuguese has already stated that he will be hiring his own employees.

"I appreciated the clear communication of the club that it was an interim spell for a short term," the interim manager stated. "That was the first communication, and they kept me updated; it might have even been one or two games.

"They stated things like, 'Okay, it's going to be four, a new head coach will be named,' etc.

"So, having that clarity is crucial to me, and I valued that.

"This football team is ultimately what matters most, and I'm here to support that in my capacity.

"As I mentioned, I want to keep doing that in the future, and it was OK to communicate that "there would be communication towards you and your colleagues that are in an uncertain scenario after the block of four games."

"So, I expect to hear today or tomorrow from them."
