Real Madrid and Manchester United'suffer significant blow' in their bid for Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich.

The Canada international's contract at Allianz Arena is set to end next summer, and in recent months, there has been a lot of conjecture about his future. Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Barcelona are reportedly interested in hiring him.

The 24-year-old left-back has long been regarded as Real Madrid's preference, but according to a recent report, Man United see him as their "dream target."

It did seem at one point that Davies would be departing Bayern, as talks between the two sides over a new contract were thought to have come to a standstill.

Sky Deutschland claims that there has been significant progress and that Bayern is optimistic that they will soon be ready to reveal a new contract for the Canadian.

In the negotiations over Davies' contract, Bayern "made significant progress."
According to the article, several 'important financial issues are being resolved' and the conversations 'are well advanced'.

With 19 appearances across all competitions and three assists, the Canadian has once again been a key member of Bayern's squad in the 2024–25 season.

After joining the Allianz Arena from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, Davies has made 214 appearances for his current team across all competitions, tallying 34 assists and 11 goals.

During his tenure at Munich, the defender won five Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, and the Champions League. He will be hoping to help Vincent Kompany's team win trophies in the 2024–25 season.

Christoph Freund, the sports director of Bayern, recently declared that his team was "confident" in landing Davies on a new contract.

"There is confidence. "Seeing him every day just makes me feel good about his background, his style of play, and how much fun he has while training and playing," Freund said.

"He fits well in with this system and the way we now play football. He is very at ease. He is currently playing at a very high level and feels comfortable at Munich."

Must Real Madrid and Manchester United look elsewhere?
Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth is reportedly a transfer target for both Real Madrid and Manchester United, who may potentially compete for another left-back.

Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia may both be traded next season, thus Los Blancos are attempting to acquire a long-term solution in that part of the pitch.

Luke Shaw's persistent injury issues have forced Man United to prioritise recruiting a left-sided defender for the upcoming campaign, as the Englishman is once again out.
